Kadamay protesters fail to occupy gov't housing project in another Bulacan town
Local authorities and residents prevented several hundred members of the urban-poor group Kadamay from occupying a government housing probject in Bustos, Bulacan on Friday night.
A report on State of the Nation Address said at least 700 Kadamay members arrived in Butos town on board 15 jeepneys around 8 p.m., with the intention to occupy another National Housing Authority project -- Bustos Heights.
Local authorities, including policemen and soldiers, and residents barricaded the housing project to prevent the Kadamay members from entering.
At first, Bustos Mayor Arnel Mendoza could not convince the Kadamay group to leave.
At around 11:30 p.m., the Kadamay members decided to withdraw but threatened to return.
The Kadamay members finally left Bustos town at around 3 a.m. Local authorities sent a truck to transport the militant members.
