Whoopi Goldberg Lists Her Longtime Old Hollywood Estate for $8.75M
When you’re a Hollywood superstar of the mega-wattage of Whoopi Goldberg, nothing but a property with serious Silver Screen street cred will do. But after more than 20 years at her Pacific Palisades home, the EGOT winner and talk show host is moving on — listing the pedigreed estate for $6.25 million more than what she purchased it for back in 1993.
According to Variety, Goldberg is “cutting her West Coast ties” and recently listed the storied Amalfi Rim estate — including a two-story 1930s Art Moderne home of over 7,000 square feet plus an above-garage guest house, sitting on two-thirds of an acre in Pacific Palisades.
A virtual secret garden of a gated enclave with dozens-of-decades mature trees and landscaping perfect for avoiding the papparazzo, Goldberg’s Hollywood-historic five bedroom, five and a half bathroom pad plus 1/1 guest house was once home to an Oscar-winning writer and then an iconic Silver Screen actor. Now, her immediate neighbors include director Steven Spielberg, comedian Adam Sandler, actor Dan Castellaneta (aka the voice of Homer Simpson), and boxer Sugar Ray Leonard — just to name a few.
The property at 1461 Amalfi Drive, listed with Douglas Elliman Real Estate, was built in 1933 and retains many of its distinctive original features, including black-and-white marble checkerboard floor in the foyer, crown moldings, fireplaces, and an onyx-clad master bathroom, along with a well-proportioned living room, dining room, library, family room, and remodeled kitchen that overlook the swimming pool, greenery, and secluded woodland canyon below.
Variety also reports that the star has significantly whittled down her impressive real estate portfolio over the last decade, primarily calling home the “stately, 1927 Georgian Colonial Revival mansion of nearly 9,500-square-feet on almost 2.5 landscaped acres in the guard-gated, picturesquely leafy, and exceedingly affluent West Orange, NJ enclave of Llewellyn Park” that she purchased for $2.8 million in 2009.
In addition to her legacy as a comedian, actor, and producer, Goldberg has also penned several acclaimed children’s books — Whoopi’s Big Book of Manners in 2007, and the Sugar Plum Ballerinas series beginning in 2008.
