BOULDER, Colo. — The Sunshine Fire was fully contained Monday afternoon, the Boulder Office of Emergency Management said.

Firefighters were expected to continue working through the night to put out hot spots and flare-ups.

Mop-up operations will continue Tuesday, officials said. All mandatory evacuation orders were lifted about 9:30 a.m. Monday.

The fire grew slightly overnight, to about 75 acres, as crews put out hot spots.

About 180 firefighters were at the fire near Sunshine Canyon, especially along the northwest quadrant where it started, on Monday.

The weather will still be a major challenge.

“It feels like June up there,” Boulder County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mike Wagner said. “There’s just no moisture.”

Fire officials believe the fire near the Boulder city limits was human caused, though an exact cause is still under investigation. The area is popular with hikers and transients who camp in the area.

Most of the people forced out of their homes were able to stay with friends or family, some at a shelter set up on the east side of Boulder until the evacuation notices were lifted.
