A MUST READ:- Its You, Not Buhari

Bigotry, Nepotism and corruption have riddled the country. These values have been instilled and drilled into the hearts and mind of an average Nigerian. How then can we move when we keep taking one step forward and two steps back.

You are a teacher and collect money from your students to pass and you blame a house of rep member for selling out contract for cash.

You are a civil servant and demand extra fee from people just to perform your sole responsibility and you blame the government of incompetence.

It’s ironic, they are just bigger thieves while you are the smaller thief.  The kind of values we train our children with would determine the direction the country is headed in Years to come.

We spend our time watching and listening to Wizkid and Davido and know the lyrics to every single song they release, but how many ministers do we know their first names.

Do we even know the house of reps members representing our constituency at the federal level?

I mean these are people we elect to make decisions and policies that would be favourable to us, yet we allow them do whatever pleases them and are completely oblivious of there activities while we are dancing to science student by Olamide.

Corruption and bigotry has been in Nigeria right from the inception, during the days of Festus Okotie eboh, the fajuyis , Tafawa balewa and ironsi , and generation to generation it has been passed down to us.

What wasn’t passed along was the idea of the legacy these leaders try to leave behind. As corrupt as festus Okotie eboh was he would still be remembered for his involvement in the 3rd mainland bridge.

Yakubu Gowon would always be a part of Nigerias history, Muritala Muhammed, Olusegun Obsanjo , these are leaders that have left their mark and would forever be remembered.

What do we have today? Rotimi Ameachi? Rochas Okorocha? Atiku Abubakar? Men who know not more than their immediate benefial needs, and who don’t see beyond their nose.

Our value matters and our value can be determined by how and what we do , and how we conduct ourselves in our every day life. Change starts with you and not Buhari, Let’s get the diagnosis right before we start treatment.

One person cannot solve the problem of 160million people that started more that 60 Years ago.

Nigeria would a better place if only you would be a better person.

  1. We elect those in whom we repose our common interest to lead, to take the lead. They are paid to lead. You see the point. If the head is not in ordee, it is futile to expect same of members If you want to treat a sick mentally deranged man, do you begin by cleaning his left toe. Just cure the head, the toe along with other members will follow suit.

  2. 99 percent of men and women all over the world do not restrain from wickedness and corruption because they are totally convinced of the eternal fitness of goodness but mainly because of consideration of consequences of their action or inaction. We elect leaders especially those hoodwink us into that by anticorruption mantra to create restraining consequences for corruption. Nigerians practice cooruption bc it pays good. Corruption does not pay in say Japan.

    1. True talk!

  3. Adedokun don’t describe Ameachi in that manner again, even though he’s no saint but he did well in Rivers state. Major problem in Nigeria today is not about pocketing money by leaders because almost all of them including GMB will do that. I say our leaders should build capital projects that will stand the test of time. Go to Rivers state all Ameachie’s lead projects are huge step projects and I respect him for that

Well said! But if I may ask, who is the cause of civil servant requesting extra fee in performing their sole responsibility. Poor minimum wage, unpaid salaries and allowances, unpaid retirees etc. How do u expect these people to survive or cater for their families if they are collecting those(bribe, fees etc) to ease their financial burden. Think deeply before you post.

  5. The same civil servants that fought strongly against Obassnjos Civil service reform to root out ghost workers, and non performing agencies?
I can tell you unequivocally that before Obanjos monetization policy, the civil service was well over weight and there was no justification for how much money was going down the drain through the civil service. Some of them were even sent abroad for seminars and functions and rather than attending these functions they stayed back and used the money to purchase cars and houses, while some would cut their journey short just to save more money.
Ask anyone conversant with the civil service and they would tell you the civil servants are even more corrupt that the politicians.
I have worked with some of them and I even heard one boasting that he hasn’t been to his office for 4 years and he was still being paid. If you get the picture here?
The bad leadership is just a product of the bad society.
