The best games of my lifetime, director's commentary

Why no Deus Ex?

On Friday I shared a list of my favourite games from each year of my lifetime. Here, in short, is my reasoning for each pick.

The first thing here, as the introduction suggests, is a correction. My headline here should really be "my favourite games released in every year of my lifetime", rather than the best. Even those these are my favourite games, if I tried to draw up a list containing "the best" game for each year, it'd look very different. But let's not get into a semantic discussion about 'bests' and 'favourites' and the rest of it - I'm not trying to say my list is better than anyone's list is the important thing. And some of the entries have personal stories behind them.

Instead of semantics, let's look at a few of those stories.
