Private firm employee kidnapped, robbed in graveyard
Victim was abducted from a busy road in Vatal Nagar at 6.30 pm on Wednesday, but no one came to his rescue; police find loopholes in his story

In a traumatic experience lasting five-and-a-half hours, a youth working in a private company was allegedly kidnapped by a gang of robbers in an autorickshaw when he was returning home on Wednesday evening at around 6.30 pm.

They took him to a graveyard in Guddadahalli on Mysuru Road, where they assaulted and robbed him of cash on his person, his mobile phone and office files he was carrying back home.

Then, demanding more valuables, they took him for a ride in an autorickshaw to Nice Road. The harrowing experience ended when they finally pushed him out of the autorickshaw near Warrier Bakery in Basaveshwaranagar and escaped with his belongings. The victim has been identified as Praveen, a resident of Basaveshwaranagar.

He is working in a private firm in Rajajinagar Industrial Area.

Praveen told the police that he was kidnapped when he was walking near HDFC Bank on Vatal Nagar Road and that a group was involved in assaulting and robbing him.

Praveen did try to call out for help to people on the road, but the initial three robbers with him in the auto gagged him and allegedly threatened to kill him with lethal weapons they were carrying. The three miscreants took him to a graveyard in Guddadahalli on Mysuru Road, where they were joined by more of their group, who beat him up black-and-blue while demanding more valuables.

According to Praveen, despite his screams for help no one came to his rescue although he was kidnapped at 6.30 pm from a busy road at that hour.

He has alleged in his complaint that because it was a busy road from where he was kidnapped, the miscreants took him to a graveyard to ensure that people remained out of earshot from his cries for help.

After being pushed out of the autorickshaw, Praveen went to a private hospital where he underwent treatment and told the doctors about his traumatic experience. The hospital authorities sent a medico legal case (MLC) report. The Rajajinagar police rushed to the hospital and took the complaint from Praveen. They have taken up a case of kidnap and dacoity.

However, the police suspect something fishy as there are a few things Praveen is not able to clarify. But, they claimed to have got some leads on the alleged robbers, and are hoping to catch them soon to know exactly what happened on that day.

Praveen has informed the police that there were about 10 miscreants in all, in the age-group of 22-30, and speaking in Kannada. DCP (North) Labhuram said, “We have taken up the case as per the victim’s statements. The incident has taken place, but the intention has to be ascertained. We have got some clues on the attackers, and we will catch them shortly.”
