November 3, 2015, AYDIN, Turkey—People with bipolar disorder who also have obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) may have a distinct form of bipolar, a new study suggests.

Turkish researchers looked at people with co-occurring bipolar and OCD, people with bipolar only, and people with OCD only. They found those with co-occurring conditions had higher rates of rapid cycling and seasonality of symptoms, earlier onset of bipolar, and were more likely to have bipolar II. They were also more likely to have an episodic course of OCD.

The study, which appeared in the journal Psychiatry Research online ahead of print, was entitled “Comorbid obsessive-compulsive disorder with bipolar disorder: A distinct form?”

  1. I have BP II with ADD Mixed. I have a best friend who is BP II and OCD I’m trying to get help for both of us with our sleep and fatigue which the antidepressants only worsen.

    1. I can offer you some relief using Neurolinguistics. Go to you tube & search the terms OCD Subliminals. The ones I used for patients are done by Thomas Hall. I trust him implicitly. They will be under a nature sounds track so you can sleep 8 to 10 hours. Binaural beats work wonders but you do have to use ear buds. Different tones in each ear, your brain reates a third tone. Read about them both of course but you may be helped.

  2. I am exactly that kinda person – to a T.

  3. I have bipolar 1 and I have OCD. My question is this??? Do you think that seasonality of symptoms is something that can occur with OCD as well or just with the bipolar aspect of it?
