Arcam, which specializes in the production of machines capable of 3D printing with specialized metal alloys, boasts more than 50 patents. Their Electron Beam Manufacturing (EBM) process, among other technologies, is used in medical and aerospace applications.Pratt and Whitney design engineer Louis Porretti EBM

Electron beam melting uses electromagnetic coils to provide several “melt pools” which can be precisely controlled and maintained simultaneously, and the EBM process is completed within a vacuum – and at very high temperatures. The end parts are metal objects which are “stress relieved,” and feature material properties very like wrought metals. For each layer in a build, an electron beam heats the full powder bed to an optimal temperature, selected according to the particular material used to create end products with unique microstructural properties.

The company also offers a range of products and services within the additive manufacturing industry.

Arcam AB now says they’re expanding in the US via a new facility for sales and service they recently opened in Woburn, MA, just outside Boston.

This latest operation, Arcam Cad to Metal Inc., is headed by recently appointed President Saeed Pirooz.

While Arcam has been present in the US since 2003 and Arcam Cad to Metal Inc. was founded in 2005, this new office in Woburn, MA will address the needs of Arcam’s rapidly growing EBM business in North America.

The company says EBM technology, due to its high productivity, is ideal for adoption by clients moving to large scale manufacturing. Arcam already has significant clients in the aerospace industry such as Pratt & Whitney, General Electric and CalRam.

According to Arcam, it was the U.S. position as the world’s largest market for aerospace and implant industry technologies that led to the decision, and a new 5500 square-foot facility in Woburn will provide sales, support, spare parts, consumables and house an application and training center to serve clients in North America.arcam logo

”We are enthusiastic about this important step in strengthening our presence in the US and we welcome Saeed as part of our global EBM team. Saeed has a solid background in leading positions in technology industry,” says Magnus René, the CEO of Arcam.

Arcam offers EBM systems via Arcam AB in Sweden, powder metals through AP&C in the Canada market and implant contract manufacturing through DiSanto in the U.S. The company is listed on the Nasdaq Stockholm exchange, and the company’s Head Office is located in Mölndal, Sweden.

“With the infrastructure and a talented team, we are well positioned to support our customers locally, and I look forward to continued growth of our business in North America,” Saeed Pirooz, the President of Arcam Cad to Metal Inc.
