According to Heat Vision, the once and future Ted is in talks with the studio to play gang leader Kaneda in the anime/manga adaptation. "Reeves doesn't yet have an offer for the role, but we hear the talks with his reps have been going well," says the site.
Albert Hughes (From Hell) is directing the picture, which obviously will be quite different from the source material. For starters, it looks like Kaneda will be cast about 35 years older than in his original incarnation. The film will not take place in Neo-Tokyo either, but rather New Manhattan, "where a biker gang leader tries to save his best friend from a medical experiment that threatens to unleash destructive powers."
That last part, at least, sounds about right. Heat Vision adds that the studio has had a hard time casting the two leads (the other being Tetsuo, the friend in trouble). James Franco, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Robert Pattinson and Michael Fassbender have all shown interest at some point.
