Mass Effect fans’ latest heartthrob is one of the galaxy’s newest aliens

Everyone here is so lumpy

As players get deeper into Mass Effect: Andromeda, more and more new information is coming out about its cast of characters. An early fan favorite is Jaal Ama Darav.

Fair warning that there are some Mass Effect: Andromeda spoilers in this article.

Jaal is a member of the angaran race, a species of sapient humanoids native to the Andromeda galaxy. Jaal joins the crew relatively early on, well after players have come across the antagonistic kett. Angarans are described as being very free with their emotions, but also can be mistrusting of other races. Much of their xenophobia has to do with the war, which has been ongoing for decades before the Pathfinder arrived.

Breaking through that tough emotional shell leads to one of the game’s more amusing interactive cutscenes.

In order to foster better human/angaran relations, Liam and Jaal engage in an insult contest combined with a sort of armor swap and quilting bee. It’s pretty hysterical.

However, what really has Pathfinder’s pressure suits all in a bunch is the fact that Jaal is a romanceable character for female Ryders. The culmination of that plotline is, like many of the game’s sex scenes, very naked. There’s even a small but devoted following of “Jallmancers” on Tumblr.

We’re looking forward to the potential for good Jaal cosplay, and the quality prosthetics and lat workouts that pulling it off will no doubt require. Be sure to send tips our way.
