Hulu on Friday released the first look at the highly anticipated second season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
The drama, from showrunner Bruce Miller and starring and exec produced by Elisabeth Moss, has become an awards season favorite, taking home the Emmy, Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award, among others, for best drama series.
Season two of the MGM Television-produced series will stretch beyond Margaret Atwood’s book that served as the basis for season one and will be shaped by Offred’s (Moss) pregnancy, Hulu says, and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd). In season two, Offred and all the characters will fight against — or succumb to — this dark truth.
Season two of The Handmaid’s Tale premieres in April. A specific date has not yet been determined. Alexis Bledel has been promoted to series regular for the sophomore season.
