My Anytime Story
I have a liver disease. It cannot be cured and it is caused by excess fat. A doctor told me I wouldn’t be able to lose weight. That a gastric bypass was the only way I was going to lose weight. He was mean and said it in a way that was like all the people who had doubted me before and so many that said I couldn’t do it. I was going to give up on myself but I wasn’t going to let some pompous doctor tell me I couldn’t lose weight. So I took it as a challenge and I have been working since to prove him wrong. It turns out, he was dead wrong. Anytime fitness allowed me, encouraged me, and supported me in changing my life.

I have lost 62 pounds. The weight loss is awesome, truly, but the way I feel about myself and the confidence I have far outweighed the weight loss. I am an athlete. My Fitfam tells me all the time. They believe it and I believe it. I am strong, I can run, I can make it through the build and burn sessions and come out sweaty and feeling like a rockstar. It’s the best feeling in the world. It all sounds so cliche, I totally thought that too. The truth is, there is something to that fitness magic. It makes things happen that you never thought possible. I still have more to lose but I know it will happen. I’m hooked on the purple kool-aid.

Growing up with Crohn’s disease and scoliosis affected me in many different ways. Not only did I struggle with the debilitating physical aspects of those illnesses, but the psychological as well. Depression ruled my teens, 20’s and 30’s, causing me to not care how I treated my body, drinking heavily, smoking, eating fast food for every meal. At 220lbs (fat), I decided to make a change. I joined Anytime Fitness and hired a trainer. Now, 7 years later, I weigh in at 179.5 (muscle). I train daily, even though I have Crohn’s, Scoliosis, No Thyroid, No Large Intestine, an Ostomy, Anxiety & Depression. I have NO EXCUSES and neither should you!

My first pull-up, at the age of 38.
Completed my first 5k.
Completed Tough Mudder.
Completed Warrior Dash.
Summited Mt. Whitney (14,505ft).
Started a Nonprofit Charity. (Not fitness related, but would never have happened if I hadn’t started my fitness journey.)

I was applying for life insurance and was rated for my weight. I had the opportunity to join Anytime fitness and actually, improve my rate with good health practice. I went to the gym and almost quit after the first day. It was so hard. I walked for 10 min, almost completed 1 pull up, and just did a few small weights here and there. After a few days, I actually started to progress. A few days turned into a week. A week turned in to two weeks. Then it was 1 lb loss. Then 2 lbs. The light clicked! I was now anxious to get to the gym.  Three months later and almost 40 lbs, I am going strong.

I joined anytime about 5 years ago. My work took me away from my normal gym so I needed a place I could go. Anytime was a perfect fit. I started a strength and conditioning program 2 years ago. I have lost 30 lbs and am in a much healthier place in my life. Anytime has been a perfect fit for me and my busy schedule. The picture is my progression over the last 2 years.
