So I've got a smok Alien 220w with the Cloud Beast. I usually run it at 90-105W. My two problems/questions:

1. I currently have 2x LG-HB6 30A 1500WAH batteries. They seem to need charging a lot, like I usually always have it plugged into the USB to charge. How unsafe is this? I'm using it all day, work/car/home, so it's not charging without use for days on end. I didn't really know which ones to get originally so I got the cheapest but still seemed decent. What kind would be better so they'd last longer?

2. I was reading TC mode stops dry hits on RDAs (I use a Congrevape Ignition RDA at about .6 ohms around 30W when I'm testing new juices), I also hear it gives a more consistent hit, like hitting back to back or long draws won't make it really hot/burntish tasting. I'm pretty sure the coils for the Beast are SS? But I don't understand the wattage/temperatures... Basically if I'm going for 90w and just want a consistent nice vape, what should the temp be set at? Or can someone explain how this works in a dumbed down way lol

1. Get a battery with a higher mAh value like the LG HG2 or the Samsung 30Q, these both have twice the run time of the ones you have. Both of these are 20 amp CDR so stay under 120 watts with a pair of them.

2. I don't use TC, but I'm sure someone else will be along shortly who does.

Up to 105w you can use 20-amp batteries such as the LG hg2, Samsung 30q, or Sony vtc6. They have double the capacity of your hb's. The Alien has proper balance charging but it's always better and safer to use a good external charger.

The Beast series of tanks don't use ss wire so unfortunately you can't do tc with them. You can use the rba head and build your own ss coils.

Basically TC regulates the temperature of the coil by pulsing on and off the power. It know the temperature because The wires that are used for TC like SS, ni, ti, etc change resistance according to temperature. The mod measures this and can tell what the temperature is.

Just to be clear it doesn't prevent dry hits, just minimise. So if you have your temperature set at 300 degrees it will let the coil and hence the wick get up to 300 degrees. So dry cotton will taste like dry cotton at 300 degrees. However that is far better then dry cotton at even higher temperatures (non-TC)

It's a preference thing really. VV/VW modes just apply the watts/power to the atty constantly and don;t care what's happening. TC regulates on /off on /off and the drier the wick is the more off it will be. As the4 temp gets hot quickly with nothing to slow it down. Hope that explains it.

BTW ni and ti should only be used in TC modes as they have harmful oxides at high temperatures. SS can be used in both modes. So far only the Hohmtech chips Gen2 chips can TC Kanthal and in fact any wire. It doesn't use rsistance to measure temperature but another technology which I do not understand. It's called Electrical Ping.

Personally I like TC with my tanks cause i can just set and forget. But with my Drippers I like to go direct and or VV. I pay a lot more attention and it gives me a hearty vape. Very Floudy. If you have anymore questions just go for it.. especially if I wasn't clear.

Depends on the mod. Most tc mods nowadays simply lower the voltage going to the coil rather than pulsing on and off.

If set up correctly tc will most definitely prevent dry hits. Cotton will start to singe at around 420℉ and unless the temperature is higher than that the cotton will not burn. The vapour production (and thus flavour) will decrease as the cotton dries, eventually tapering off altogether, but you won't get a dry hit.

Thanks Ken,

I was not aware of those points. I was on the right track but i enjoy getting to know the finer details. So just wish to clarify if you dont mind. If I had my Temp set at say 400 and I had no juice left. Will the mod still heat the coil up to 400 but because the cotton is only being singed you don't get a dry hit. Am i on the right track?

With most chips the coil will heat up to the temperature set, but as long as it's not higher than the cotton can take you won't get an actual dry hit. Sure, heating up completely dry cotton will give you a slight taste of warmed up cotton which isn't the nicest, but you won't burn the cotton. I believe Yihi chips and possibly some others will stop heating when a dry coil is detected.
