Una mirada a la vida de un padre soltero con su hija autista. La historia narra las vacaciones del autor con su hija y la visión de mundo de esta. Una mirada tierna y amorosa de su condición y cómo afronta él las situaciones que conlleva.
Nunca he entendido muy bien el autismo pero este libro me brinda una perspectiva muy especial. Su lectura no me demoró más de una hora y lo disfruté bastante.

El mérito principal de esta obra está en el continuo optimismo y la ternura que transmite. Miguel Gallardo nos cuenta los hechos con tono jovial y alegre, mostrándonos siempre la verdad con una enorme sensibilidad, sin caer en el drama, aunque también sin ocultarlo. Me ha gustado, ya sabía casi todo sobre María y su padre de haber hablado de la novela gráfica en clase pero leerla ha tenido el plus de reírse de los guiris que van a Canarias. Siento que muestra muy bien todas las caras del autismo, en el caso de su hija, y entiendo que sea tan famosa. El estilo de dibujo no es mi cosa favorita pero por otro lado sí me gusta que sea así, pega jaja

Es lo más encantador que he leído. Nos muestra el amor incondicional de un padre a su hija, lo fácil que la gente juzga sin conocer, aprendes una que otra cosa sobre el autismo.

Good story that is about the experience of a father and his autistic daughter during a trip to the beach and how they spend their time there. We see the world through Maria's eyes, and we get to know the reactions she has to everything around her. It is a very visual book because of this, and also because her dad draws beautiful images which show what she's like and what they do that day. It's a short book but very well thought out by the author in order to show people their experiences and also show who his daughter is in spite of her autism. The book is full of honesty, irony and humour about living with a disability. As a person with physical disabilities, I really ideantified with people's reactions to Maria and her disability. I'm looking forward to reading book 2 about when Maria is 20 years old.

Aprovechando un viaje a Canarias con su hija, Miguel Gallardo nos muestra en esta novela gráfica cómo es su día a día al lado de su hija María que tiene 12 años, es muy divertida y presenta autismo.
En tono de humor y partiendo de su infinita paciencia y comprensión conocemos cómo percibe María las aglomeraciones y las situaciones nuevas que van apareciendo en su vida y siempre desde el optimismo de quien enfatiza lo que le aporta su hija y no lo que la hace diferente.
Porque claro que es diferente , su vocabulario, comprensión de situaciones son peculiares. Pero su amor, su entrega y aceptación facilitan que adapte su vocabulario, le anticipe las situaciones nuevas, se sirva de pictogramas para que comprenda algunas acciones y sobre todo, facilita que ante situaciones estresantes esté más relajada, que no tenga miedo.
Me parece un formato muy inteligente del que se sirve para contarnos una historia y tal y como hace con su hija, se sirve de las imágenes y la utilización de mensajes muy claros para mostrarnos su relación con su hija. Nos pone en sus zapatos para que la entendamos a través de los recursos que utilizaría con María.
Me gustó mucho y es apta para todos los públicos, especialmente para sensibilizar a docentes, familias y escolares

أسبوع في حياة طفلة مصابة بالتوحد.
الكتاب عبارة عن يوميات أب وبنته المصابة بالتوحد وهم بيقضوا أجازة أسبوعية في جزر الكناري.
الأب بيحاول يوصل جزء من طبيعة العلاقة بين مرضى التوحد والبيئة المحيطة بأسلوب سهل محاولة منه لجعل المجتمع يتفهم وضعهم الخاص ويبدأ في تقبلهم.
المشكلة أن نوعية الرسومات دي بتجيب لي صداع معرفش ليه.

Ya había leído el segundo volumen de eata serie, cuando María ya está más grande. Este primer volumen es muy tierno. Se enfoca con humor en mostrar la sensibilidad de su hija María. Me gusta el interés de Miguel, sin duda aprendido de su hija, por las cosas sencillas. La arena, las pizzas, el agua.
Y el trazo se corresponde con esta perspectiva: viñetas sencillas, imperfectas. El dibujo como forma de comunicación, sin pretenciones. Qué difícil es.

No está nada mal. Representa un acercamiento hacia personas con total desconocimiento del TEA. Además, me ha encantado el símil de la arena de la playa. Es, a mi parecer, de lo más valioso de la obra.
Sin embargo no me ha encantado ni el trazo del dibujo ni la caligrafía. Me producía cierto nerviosismo jajaja, en fin, manías. Además, considero que representa más un álbum personal que una obra dirigida al público, como han reseñado otras personas por aquí. Tampoco pienso que la intencionalidad sea tener una función puramente divulgativa, pero quizá desde mi punto de vista algunas páginas no dicen nada al público pero sí al entorno familiar del autor.
Recomendable pero no mucho. Se lee de una sentada y además, atendiendo a la información de la bibliotecaria, existe también un documental.

He thanks virtually everyone he knows EXCEPT MARÍA. He uses all kinds of ableist language and demonstrates no concept of why, for example, we who are autistic stim. He generalizes behaviour he sees in María to all autistic people. And... he’s a Disneyland Dad. María’s mother is her parent; he swoops in for a week or two a year to take María on vacations.
None of this makes for a good book. I’m glad for María she spends as little time with her self-aggrandizing father as she does.

Es una historia real y muy tierna que nos ayuda a entender un poco mejor la singularidad de los niños con autismo. No obstante me hubiese gustado más un poco más de desarrollo de la historia y las peculiaridades de esta relación padre-hija

I am clear, by all the books about there about Autism, that having books about autism is a very good thing. It is important to show that people with autism should be part of every day life, and that it is not the end of the world to have autism.
And I think that is what this book is trying to show, in this some-what sweet look at a vacation that the father and the daughter took to the Canary Islands.
But it felt very disjointed, and having his daughter screaming on the whole flight would have made me want to scream at her, so the father has the patience of a saint.

Simplemente, una carta de amor de un padre a su hija. Sin querer dar lecciones ni colocarse en una posición moral superior, Miguel Gallardo nos cuenta unas vacaciones con su hija María, y las pequeñas situaciones cotidianas que viven juntos. Así, poco a poco, también nosotros vamos conociendo a María en las pequeñas cosas y, sin haberla visto nunca, ya nos enamoramos de ella.

Miguel Gallardo is an illustrator and writer. He lives in Barcelona. He wrote and illustrated the graphic novel, Maria and Me, about a vacation he had with his daughter, Maria, when she was twelve years old. Maria is autistic. In the story, he talks about both the frustrations and the joys of being Maria’s father. She has a tendency to yell inappropriate things in public but she can remember the names of almost everyone she meets even for just a few minutes and she has a smile that lights up rooms. Most of the frustration for Miguel comes not from Maria but from the nasty stares and the cruel comments made in passing by strangers and much of the joy comes from the kindness and understanding of people who take the time to make them feel welcome and to make it easier for him and his daughter: the airline staff who make sure they can sit together on the plane, the hotel staff at the resort they visit every year who seem genuinely happy to see Maria again.
Autism seems to be much more prevalent today or, perhaps, thanks to advances in the field, it is just being diagnosed more frequently. Whatever the reason, there are a lot of misconceptions about autistic children. Miguel wrote this graphic novel to try to dispel these misconceptions. Through simple mostly red, black and white graphics and a charmingly honest story, he shows what life is like for people with autism and the people who love and care for them. As it says in the prologue to the book,
…Maria is neither distant nor cold, but emotional and affectionate beyond the characteristics of her autism. We can make Maria and other children like her happier by simply accepting them just as they are: unique, like everyone else.

When I came across this I knew I had to read it. As a mother of 2 daughters on the spectrum I was vastly curious to read about a similar life from a father’s point of view particularly in a different culture.
The author uses many drawings to help illustrate his story. I liked the simplicity in the drawings because they reminded me of similar ones we use for social stories to help the girls learn various behaviors or rules.
Learning about Maria was like reading about my own daughters in many ways. They too don’t like crowds and breathe schedules like they are as important as oxygen.
The way he describes how people look at his daughter tugs at the heartstrings because I know those looks; I’ve tried to ignore them on many occasions though it’s not always easy.
The wall he describes I’ve seen myself along with the sensitivity to rejection and/or positivity; almost as if they can feel emotions in a physical way. Though my daughters don’t pinch if they don’t like you they will shut down. My youngest just psychologically floats off into her own world while my oldest will curl up and cry as if her whole world just came crashing down.
The more I delved into this book the more I fell in love with Maria and appreciated her father for sharing a story so many like me can see our own lives represented in. Then at the end he provides a multitude of characteristics that you might see from someone on the spectrum and tries to provide an educational experience.
The thing I loved the most is that autism and good parenting of children on the spectrum doesn’t see boundaries in culture, country or gender. It doesn’t matter what language or where your child is being raised because all they really need is love and to be appreciated for who they are.

I’m unique just like everyone else. Es la frase que puede leerse en la portada de la novela gráfica María y yo, sobre la camiseta de la niña. Y quizá pueda ser un resumen del aprendizaje que podemos extraer de esta lectura, puesto que uno de los temas que trata es la diversidad. María es una niña de 12 años con autismo.
Miguel Gallardo, autor y padre de María Gallardo, protagonista de esta historia, narra las vacaciones de ambos en un hotel lleno de turistas al sur de Gran Canaria durante una semana.
Es una obra que consigue que el lector se sumerja en el viaje que hacen padre e hija, un viaje lleno de emociones, donde vamos descubriendo cómo es el día a día de una niña con autismo, y cómo lo es también para la gente que le rodea y le quiere. No obstante, también bajo algunas miradas algo incómodas.
Mediante unos dibujos sencillos, Gallardo transmite de una forma clara las vivencias de su salida, tal y como lo hace con su hija, acostumbrado a comunicarse de una manera visual con ella. Con sus trazos María comprende el mundo que le rodea, y con ellos los lectores aprendemos también de las relaciones familiares y personales, la empatía, la estima, etc.
Mi momento favorito de la historia es cuando María recuerda el nombre de una persona, algo a lo que le gusta jugar mucho a ella, que su padre había olvidado. Gallardo lo señala como un momento que vale oro, al ver simplemente la cara de alegría de su hija. Y de ello todos/as tenemos mucho que aprender, y valorar de las personas que nos rodean.

Yo tenía entendido que las personas con autismo eran cohibidos 🧐 pero es cierto es diferente por cada persona o también pueden ser mezcla con otros transtornos.
Pues esta historia de Miguel un papá soltero que nos cuenta las aventuras con Maria su hija con autismo en un viaje de vacaciones.
No entrare en detalles ni criticas porque tiene un transtorno que no controla pero el papá es "sano" tampoco puede enojarse si la gente no le agrada aguantar los gritos se supone que si vas de vacaciones vas a relajarte🤷🏻♀️ y además no es por su condición es que cualquier persona que grite todos van a voltear es algo normal.
Hablo en general el ir con niños pequeños en un avion deberia ser ilegal es una molestia para todos y más cuando son mal criados es uno de los momentos más anticonceptivos del mundo 😂.
Si ya tener una bendición es un gran sacrificio ahora que tengan estos transtornos es de pesadilla mis respetos y admiración para los que viven con alguien asi tienen una paciencia descomunal yo no podría sufrí mucho al leer y se me hizo pesado querer continuar porque en si no hay una historia y en momentos parecia que se romantizaba tampoco hay que pintarlo como algo bonito porque no lo es y más porque no se puede hacer nada más que aprender a vivir asi 😕 (bueno si se puede lo olvidaba hay terapias super recomendable tanto para el afectado como para los padres )

Maria and Me is a tender, charming and relatable look at life with a father and his daughter Maria, who happens to be autistic.
The author is compassionate and understanding, honestly sharing the ups and downs of having a child with autism.
The magic here is how his perceptiveness, intelligence and warmth lets him see and appreciate his daughter for who she is. This book shares the joy and intelligence Maria displays, and it’s not hard to understand her or her style of speaking once you get to know her.
The message, “I’m unique just like everyone else” is a great motto that perceptiveness, compassion and understanding applies to everyone, including yourself.
A wonderful travelogue and illustrated slice of life. The illustrations and the strategic use of red in the drawings are great at highlighting details and communicating parts of the story.
I also liked to run sand thru my fingers as a child (and who could forget how the movie Amelie celebrated tactile experiences like sticking your hand deep into a bag of beans?)

With all the love in the world, this little comic is a great help to make those who do not have an autistic relative in their family or in their environment aware of the variety of situations in which a person accompanying someone with autism can find themselves. The synthetic and sympathetic illustrations express it very cleverly.

Interesante reflejo de la vida del autor y su hija de 12 años con autismo. A menudo, ambos se van de vacaciones a Gran Canaria y esa experiencia, con sus rutinas y contratiempos, es lo que se refleja en este breve comic. Salpicadas entre su día a día, se nos incluye también algunas explicaciones sobre el autismo en general y las costumbres de María en particular.
No puedo decir que no haya disfrutado de la historia pero se me hizo bastante superficial. Me hubiera gustado que Gallardo profundizara un poco mas, porque creo que María se merece más protagonismo. En cuanto a los dibujos, no. A loo me gustaron.Sé que la simplicidad tiene su motivo, pero como lectora no me resultó atractivo ni interesante de ver. Eso sí, disfrute mucho de las combinaciones de colores en negro y rojo. A largo del comic se pueden ver algunas mezclas muy interesantes.

Maria and Me by Miguel Gallardo is a free NetGalley e-comicbook that I read in mid-September.
Gallardo uses his sketches as a way to communicate and praise his daughter, Maria, for her uncanny ability to memorize the name of every one she meets. He and she spend time together on annual summer trips between Barcelona and the Canary Islands by plane (and it means a lot to see that Maria and I have similar difficulties staying still during air travel) and Gallardo's red & black ink sketches (and ingenious hand-drawn pictograms to forecast and schedule daily activities) openly delight in both the Comfort and warmth of her presense, as well as how quick Maria is to notice both praise and rejection.
