It is belongs to the algae family, it has a dark lower side with rootlets that connect the lichen to its substrate, and the upper side found in several colors – grey, yellow, and brown and has reproductive organs on it. These may be spore-producing bodies, both vegetative structures. In between these two layers is the medulla which contains the algal component of the lichen.
Stone Flower, also known as Parmotrema perlatum or Kalpasi, is a type of lichen commonly used in Indian cuisine, particularly in South Indian dishes. It imparts a unique earthy flavor and is often employed in spice blends like garam masala.
