Porsche 911 spy shots show the car hiding in plain sight

UPDATE 3.28.17: Of course Porsche is testing the next 911 at the Nürburgring.

We received another set of spy shots of the next Porsche 911, this time testing at the Nürburgring race track in Germany. We can't be completely sure whether this is the exact same car that was spotted testing in the snow, they appear very similar. Take a close look at the rear of the 911 in both galleries and you'll see the rear wing retracted in the winter testing, but in its extended position at the track. Also note the rear light bar that looks similar to the arrangement seen on the latest Panamera.

Hiding a new prototype of the Porsche 911 must be relatively easy. As these spy photos show, the new 992 generation doesn't look all that different from the current 991.2, so in a passing glance you may not even notice the difference.

Round headlights with bulging fenders, sloping roofline, and wide rear taillights are all still here, with only some minor changes to the bodywork really setting this car apart. The interesting thing here is that we can see the car with the full-width spoiler down.

We saw a couple of 911s about a month ago, but based on the license plate it looks like Porsche has a fleet of test vehicles running about. That's no surprise, as the 911 comes in more flavors than a Baskin Robbins. Changes to the new model include slightly reworked front and rear ends. The lights no longer meet the bumper, the hood now extends further forward, while out back the exhaust pipes seem to have been relocated. It's difficult to say which variant this may be, but the wide hips suggest all-wheel drive.

The 991.2 model is still pretty fresh, so it would be a surprise to see this car before the end of the year. Look for the next-gen 911's reveal sometime next spring.
