Celebrates with Week-long Party for 2nd Anniversary

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oak & Ore has been recognized as the best beer bar in Oklahoma in the annual Great American Beer Bars competition conducted by CraftBeer.com – the National Brewers Association website for beer lovers. A week’s worth of activities are planned to celebrate the award along with the success of its second year of business in Oklahoma City’s Plaza District. Special beer tappings and customer appreciation promotions will be held throughout the week of March 19.

The official 2-year anniversary party will take place from 12p-5p on Saturday, Mar. 25, featuring a flurry of special release beers being tapped each hour. All 36 taps will be filled exclusively with Oklahoma craft beer. There will be hourly drawings for door prizes, and attendees who purchase an Oklahoma craft beer will be entered to win a limited-edition Oak & Ore anniversary t-shirt.

Beginning Sunday, Mar. 19 through Saturday, Mar. 25, kids 12 and under can eat free from the kids menu and customers can get a 20 percent discount on food from the regular menu with a Keep It Local card. The restaurant will also be officially debuting several new menu items.

That the anniversary plans coincide with the Best Beer Bar title means a lot to Oak & Ore owner Micah Andrews.

“We’ve really focused our efforts this year not just on continuing to grow our business but also by trying to contribute positively in this city and this state that we love,” said Andrews. “While 2015 was all about settling in and working towards being our best operationally, our second year gave us an opportunity to be more involved in our community, both in the Plaza District and the local craft beer culture. We were honored to help create an outlet for the public and local craft brewers to make known to legislators and state officials about important issues facing Oklahoma craft breweries. We were able to be more actively involved in causes in and around our neighborhood like Plaza Beer Walk benefitting local schools. It feels great to see that our customers appreciate and encourage those efforts, along with enjoying the quality of service we work to provide.”

For the Great American Beer Bar competition, CraftBeer.com readers were asked to nominate their favorite beer bar in their state and to fill out a short survey about what makes it so great, including atmosphere, staff, beer selection and special events.

“CraftBeer.com readers understand what sets a beer bar apart, and have continually shown up since 2012 to recommend and praise their favorite spots,” said Julia Herz, publisher of CraftBeer.com. “With more than 7,000 votes cast, we are excited to announce this year’s winners – a sign that craft beer bars, now more than ever, are committed to their patrons and ensuring the best overall experience.”

Oak & Ore was a very public supporter of last year’s legislation that led to progressive changes in the state alcohol laws, beginning with the 2016 Oklahoma Craft Beer Summit in January, continuing with voter registration drives and public awareness campaigns in partnership with the Craft Brewers Association of Oklahoma, and culminating in a day-long celebratory brewery tour on August 26th when Senate Bill 424 went into effect, allowing breweries to sell full-strength beer at their own taprooms.

Also in 2016, Oak & Ore, along with three other Plaza District restaurants, launched the monthly Plaza Beer Walk as a way to introduce customers to newly available craft beers while raising funds for public schools near the Plaza neighborhood. To date, they have raised over $1500 for Eugene Field Elementary and Gatewood Elementary.

“We hope to do even more with the Plaza Beer Walk this year,” said Andrews. “And for everyone wondering about the 2017 Oklahoma Craft Beer Summit [postponed from January due to weather concerns], we have a big announcement coming soon.”
