I just received an email that some Brownells AR-15 barrels are being recalled due to a small error in the manufacturing process. It appears that when drilling the gas port, some barrels may show signs of the drill bit contacting the rifling on the opposite side of the barrel.

THIS IS NOT A SAFTEY ISSUE!

Brownells stands behind every product they sell and take customer satisfaction seriously. They feel that this small defect will impact accuracy and is not up to Brownells standards and has offered to refund or replace the affected barrels as soon as replacements become available.

I have to say that I am reasonably impressed by the proactive actions of Brownells and how seriously they take their 100% satisfaction guarantee. Not many companies out there would have emailed everyone that purchased one of the models of barrels that might have the small defect.

If you believe that you have one of these barrels you likely have already received the email from the Brownells customer service team, but on the off chance that you purchased it from a dealer you may want to follow up with their customer service team.

It has come to our attention that the Brownells barrel you recently purchased may have a defect.  When drilling the gas port, there is a possibility that the drill contacted the opposite side of the interior of the barrel.  Your barrel may have a slight blemish or show signs of contact in the rifling opposite the gas port.  If this is evident on your barrel, or you are not certain and would like an exchange, please contact Brownells.  The defect is not a safety issue, but may lead to suboptimal accuracy and is not to our standards.

Please contact Brownells 800-741-0015 and ask for our Customer Support Staff, or you can reply to this email. We will offer you a UPS prepaid shipping label to return the barrel. We will need to know if you would like credit issued or an exchange when the new inventory is received.
