Thanks for your question!
So here’s how the story usually goes (how it went for me): People that are beginning their journey into the ballet fandom stumble upon one of the most famous dancers known as Svetlana Zakharova. Immediately, they see the sky high extensions, the mile long legs, and the beautiful arches. In an instant, without really comprehending what they are watching, they think “Wow! She is the best dancer ever!”. That is until they watch other dancers and start learning their own taste.
That is how my story went and I see it a lot with others as well. True, she is one of the most renowned dancers of our time who did set standards for all the ballerinas that came after her, but let me explain.
To me, I feel as though Sveta has tired out. She doesn’t dance with as much passion and gusto as she did in her Mariinsky days (yes, I am one of those people who think she was better back then). Nowadays, I see her and think she’s gotten a little muted and dull. Her lyricism is subpar and her artistry is lacking. Her technicality is literally perfection and her extensions are beautiful, but to me, they get in the way of what’s truly important. I don’t follow up on her anymore because I feel there is no point.
Please don’t hate me guys! You asked for more my honest opinion and here it is! I just happen to be extremely judgmental nowadays! Please don’t let what I say influence your opinions!
