Walking Dead grad Michael Cudlitz has lined up his next gig.
The actor, who most recently portrayed iconic comic book character Abraham Ford on the AMC zombie drama, has been tapped to star in ABC drama pilot The Trustee.
The hourlong comedic pilot revolves around Eliza Radley (Meaghan Rath), a driven but stubborn detective who finds unlikely help from her precinct’s trustee, a larger than life ex-con finishing out her prison sentence doing menial tasks for the police department. Although these two have completely opposing views on crime and punishment, a highly entertaining and successful partnership is born.
Cudlitz will star as Timothy Waits, a wry and sardonic police captain who has learned to appreciate Radley’s unorthodox policing methods.
The Trustee is being written by Smurfs duo Jay Scherick and David Ronn, with Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman on board to exec produce alongside the pair. The buddy cop dramedy hails from Warner Bros. Television.
For Cudlitz, the casting marks his first series regular role since (spoiler alert!) his former military sargeant was killed off on AMC’s The Walking Dead. It also serves as a reunion for Cudlitz with NBC and Warner Bros. Television, for whom he starred on Southland (which TNT ultimately saved from cancellation).
Cudlitz, who remains a popular draw on the fan convention circuit, is represented by APA, Anonymous Content and Stone Genow.
