YouTube has announced a new online TV streaming service that will offer a variety of live broadcasts from dozens of channels and cable networks. It’ll cost $35 a month with no commitments and will be available “soon.” That and more in today’s news.
YouTube TV will be similar to other popular online streaming services like Sling TV or PlayStation Vue. It will offer most major networks like ABC, CBS, NBC, as well as regional sports networks and “dozens” of cable channels. It’ll also come with a cloud DVR and access to YouTube Red original videos. They haven’t announced a launch date but you can sign up for updates on tv.youtube.com. [YouTube]
The Wall Street Journal has published a rumor about the iPhone 8 that sounds pretty unlikely. They say that Apple may be switching to USB-C and ditching their proprietary Lighting connection. Take it with a grain of salt, though; there’s a whole ecosystem of accessories built around the Lightning port and it would be a strange choice by Apple. (Albeit, they are embracing USB-C ports on the latest MacBooks.) It’s also rumored that iPhone 8’s screen will be curved. [The Wall Street Journal]
Microsoft has a new gaming subscription service and it looks like a pretty good deal. For $10 a month, you can get access to over a library of 100 Xbox One games as well as some backwards compatible titles. The games don’t stream; it’s a download subscription service, like EA Access. [Kotaku]
In other gaming news, the Nintendo Switch will have over 60 indie games available for the console by the end of the year. [Kotaku]
SoundCloud is adding a cheaper plan to their subscription service. For $5 a month, you get access to a smaller catalog of music but it still includes 120 million songs (as opposed to 150 million tracks on their $10/month plan). [9to5Mac]
