Paramount has set a date for Darren Aronosfky’s mother! starring Jennifer Lawrence and Michelle Pfeiffer for Oct. 13. Pic’s logline reads: a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Domhnall Gleeson also star.
Pic will take the place of Friday the 13th which is moving off the Melrose Lot’s schedule. Par has bounced this one around the schedule, trying to get it to happen. In the wake of Rings not resonating this weekend at the B.O., particularly at the height of its previous two early ’00s pics, it seems like there are second thoughts here with a horror franchise reboot.
Also, as we long expected, World War Z 2 is not happening on June 9. A director has been unset for sometime for the Skydance co-production; Juan Antonio Bayona left the project a year ago. David Fincher was reportedly in talks at one point over the summer, but nothing solidified. That leaves Universal’s reboot of The Mummy starring Tom Cruise standing alone on June 9. The Mummy becomes one of four major studio tentpoles this summer to open unopposed alongside Disney/Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, Paramount’s Transformers: The Last Knight on June 23 and Sony/Marvel’s Spider-man: Homecoming on July 7.
