December 1, 2015, SINGAPORE — Older adults who received relaxation interventions experienced greater reductions in depression and anxiety, a new analysis has found.

Researchers from Singapore reviewed previous studies involving steps such as music intervention, yoga, progressive muscle relaxation training and combined relaxation training. They found that the positive impact of some interventions lasted for 14 to 24 weeks.

The study, which appeared in the journal Aging and Mental Health, was entitled “Effects of relaxation interventions on depression and anxiety among older adults: a systematic review.”
