Mozilla Buys Bookmarking Service Pocket

Today, Mozilla, the company behind Firefox, has announced that it has acquired the popular bookmarking service, Pocket.

Mozilla doesn’t go into a ton of detail on what, if anything will change in Pocket, but they do suggest that Pocket will be a product line alongside Firefox, which suggests they won’t just eat it up and close it off from other browsers. Pocket will also become a part of Mozilla’s open source project. Pocket’s biggest rival, Instapaper, was purchased by Pinterest just last year, which quickly led to the death of Instapaper’s paid plan. While Mozilla suggests that nothing will change with Pocket, we’ll have to wait and see what Mozilla actually means by that.
