Filming in Vancouver: sci-fi fantasy film Spontaneous coming soon, and TV series back on set

Katherine Langford will star in a Vancouver-shot adaptation of the novel Spontaneous.

Happy new year greetings to all!

Of course, a new year means a fresh new lineup of movies and TV series coming to Vancouver to look forward to.

Of course, it’ll take things a little while to get going, as some TV series that have been on a holiday break are just getting back into the saddle.

But already a new film is slated to come to town.

So let’s get going on taking a look at what’s going on in Vancouver’s screen scene during this first week of 2018, shall we?

Katherine Langford

Fresh for this year on the big screen side of the things is an adaptation of a young adult novel by Aaron Starmer.

Spontaneous will shoot here from January 29 to March 2, directed by Brian Duffield (Insurgent screenwriter).

In the sci-fi fantasy, high-school students in a New Jersey suburb suddenly begin to spontaneously combust, popping like balloons. As student Mara Carlyle (played by 13 Reasons Why’s Katherine Langford) tries to make it through her senior year without exploding, she begins to wonder what part of life is worth living when it can be taken away at any moment.

Elsewhere in the city, it’s back to work for numerous TV productions this week after a holiday hiatus.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Season 2 of A Series of Unfortunate Events, which was on vacation for two months from November 2 until today (January 2).

But unlike other home-screen productions, it has a yearlong schedule: it started filming on April 17 last year and will continue until April 20 of this year.

Supernatural

Other TV series back to work today (January 2) include:

  • Colony (Season 3), continuing until February 16
  • The Good Doctor (Season 1), which goes until March 1
  • Once Upon a Time (Season 7), which runs until April 2
  • Supernatural (Season 13), which is the longest running TV series in Vancouver at the moment, shoots until April 19
  • The Flash (Season 4), until April 21
  • Arrow (Season 6), which continues until April 26

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

Here’s a list of the series that are back on set tomorrow (January 3), including a few that have fast-approaching wrap dates this month:

  • Life Sentence (Season 1), wraps on January 12
  • iZombie (Season 4), continuing until January 25
  • The 100 (Season 5), shoots until January 29
  • DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (Season 3), continues until February 26
  • Supergirl (Season 3), runs until April 28

UnReal

Meanwhile, UnReal (Season 4) is back on Thursday (January 4) and continues until January 25.

There are still a few more series that are on a holiday break but will be back next week. We’ll go over those and whatever other new developments there are in town in our next installation.

Until then, happy star-spotting on the streets of Hollywood North…
