Famitsu has some info on the sales of Super Mario Odyssey during its first 3 days in Japan. According to their numbers, the game moved 511,625 copies in those 3 days. Sales include game-specific download cards and the Switch Super Mario Odyssey bundle, but not sales directly through the eShop.

For a bit of comparison, Splatoon 2 sold 671,000 units during its first 3 days. This goes to show just how big Splatoon is over in Japan. It's also worth pointing out once again that Super Mario Odyssey was a complete sell-out at some retailers, meaning potential customers didn't have a chance to grab the game.
