CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL: Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1850 Union Street in Niskayuna, is having their 13 Annual Christmas Festival on Saturday, December 9, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. This includes hundreds of nativity scenes from around the world, German bake sale, hand chimes and more. KIDS’ BIKE GIVEAWAY: Bikeatoga will be holding its annual Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway on Saturday December 9 in Saratoga Springs. Bikeatoga is prepared to give away approximately 60 bikes to needy children through age 17. The best selection of bikes is for younger children, and selection of some bike sizes is limited. NUTCRACKER: The School of the Arts at the National Museum of Dance is thrilled to be performing The Nutcracker, Act 2, Kingdom of the Sweets once again this holiday season. BALLSTON SPA COMMUNITY CHOIR: The Community Choir of Ballston Spa invites the public to a free Christmas Concert of “And It Came to Pass, Emmanuel”. BOOK LAUNCH PARTY: Local award-winning author Janine De Tillio Cammarata’s fourth book, “The Puzzle Quests: Shimmer’s Eggs,” is the first in a series for kids ages 8-12, but the message is for everyone. HOLIDAY ORNAMENT FESTIVAL: Pitney Meadows Community Farm, located at 223 West Avenue in Saratoga Springs, turns its new “high tunnel” greenhouse into a festive facility for making holiday ornaments and decorations on Sunday, December 10 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Families will find all the materials they need to make decorations ranging from pine-cone bird feeders, painted gourds, recycled wrapping paper from newspapers, to ornaments from natural materials like pine cones, acorns, walnuts, berries, and seed pods. Holiday refreshments will be served. The Saratoga Santa will make a special appearance around 2:15 p.m. A $5 per-person or $15 per-family donation is suggested. REINVIGORATING DEMOCRACY: Blaire Horner, executive director of the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), will discuss the steps that should be taken to reverse NYS’s awful record in voter registration and turnout. New York requires that voters register at least 25 days before an election, one of the earliest deadlines in the nation. In the 2016 election, the Presidential debates had not ended by New York’s registration deadline. New York had one of the lowest voter turnouts in its history. SARATOGA CHILDREN’S CHORUS: After twenty-five years of providing a musical outlet for young singers in the Saratoga area, Saratoga Children’s Chorus will sing its final concert on Sunday, December 17 at 3 p.m. at Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Ave.at Henning Rd. Begun in 1992 by the late Alayne Trombley, music educator in the Saratoga schools, and the late Gwen Pykett, voice teacher, the chorus will be going on hiatus as it reorganizes for the future. Free and open to the public, the celebratory concert will feature works by Britten, Papoulis, Rao, Diack, and a song cycle called, “Snow Songs” written by Pykett specifically for the chorus in 2001. FIRST NIGHT 5K: First Night Saratoga is the most affordable, accessible, safe and exciting way to spend New Year’s Eve in the region. Most people arrive downtown around 6 p.m. when the entertainment officially starts, but for for the past nineteen years, a brave group of runners get a jump on the night at the Annual First Night 5k Roadrace. With their friends and family cheering them on, they don their best holiday running attire and gather at the Skidmore College gymnasium at 5:30pm, where the 3.1 mile loop around campus begins.
