"Frozen" Waves Turned an Ordinary Beach Into a Dreamscape

Just when you thought the you'd seen every beach-scene picture possible, Jonathan Nimerfroh shared some breathtaking photos that seem out of this world. Based in Nantucket, Massachusetts, this surf and lifestyle photographer stopped by a local beach on a day in 2015 when temperatures were below 19 degrees, only to notice beautiful, slushy waves — 2 or 3 feet tall — lapping up the shore. He returned the next day to find these waves completely frozen, a result of Nantucket's coldest winter in 81 years. His amazing photos are going viral again, nearly two years later.
