PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Mercy Corps Ethiopia seeks enthusiastic, intelligent and ambitious female graduate and post-graduates who are passionate about international development. This position will provide the intern an opportunity to develop their professional skills and expand their knowledge on gender mainstreaming tools and strategies in community-driven development while supporting the country program towards rigorous learning to develop strategies to address gender issues in its programing. This internship will also support the country office’s efforts towards improving female recruitment and retention.
The intern will be provided with technical guidance to understand organization’s effort to address gender mainstreaming in it human resource development/staffing and implementation of different programs from a Mentor. At the beginning of the internship period, the intern will receive orientation on Mercy Corps’ mission, vision, strategy and programming. She will work with her mentor on professional skills development goals, and activities and responsibilities related to achieving these goals; she will also work with program and gender advisory team on technical skill-development goals, and activities and responsibilities related to achieving these goals.
At the end of the internship period, the combined professional and technical skills development plan will be the milestones against which the internship will be evaluated and will be the basis of a strong recommendation letter for future employment. The intern will also be interviewed to assess the degree to which the internship period helped her to achieve her professional goals.
SCOPE OF WORK
· Review documents and meet MC program and operation staffs to learn and document how MCE integrate and address gender issues in its human resource development/staffing and implementation of program activities
· Identify major gaps and challenges observed in addressing gender issues in MCE
· Keep and compile the data for staffing and retention progress, present on learning hour
· Working with Human Resource department
· Review and compile experiences and best practices from other organizations on addressing gender equity in human resource development/staffing and program activities
· Take part and Facilitate the gender working group meetings/discussions
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the internship, the intern will have developed the following knowledge and experience:
· becomes familiar with Mercy Corps Ethiopia program activities and organizational effort and approaches to mainstream gender in its human resource development/staffing and program activities implementations
· learn tools and strategies used by different organization to address gender issues in their programing and human resource development
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
· Fresh First Degree in Management, Sociology, Gender Studies, Social Studies or related discipline.
· Advanced computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly in Excel
· Excellent oral and written English skills
