Politics has factored into every major awards show this season — both on red carpets and stages — and the Academy Awards are likely to be the same. It has already affected Oscar week’s party schedule with UTA announcing that the agency would scrap its annual pre-Oscar party in favor of a United Voices Rally at its headquarters on Civic Center Drive in Beverly Hills while also donating a decent chunk of change to the American Civil Liberties Union and the International Rescue Committee.
It’s not the only shift organizers of major events this week are making in the wake of a politicized cultural landscape: The annual Global Green Gala will focus on Stand With Standing Rock efforts by toasting a Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Council leader; and Vanity Fair and Barneys New York are teaming for a La La Land dinner with distributor Lionsgate that will also benefit the ACLU.
