Here's the Callaway Corvette C7 AeroWagen shooting brake in the flesh

It's been a long time, baby.

The year was 2013. It was a simpler time, when the Chevy Corvette C7 was brand new and the aftermarket was eyeing it with lust. Then Callaway burst onto the scene with renders of a fantastical shooting brake conversion, called the AeroWagen. Then we waited. By 2016, Callaway told us that it would be coming by the end of the year, and perhaps more cheaply than originally planned, but still we waited.

If you want to buy an AeroWagen conversion, you might still have to wait for some undefined period of time, but at least today we can show you what it looks like in the sheetmetal. These are not renders, but pictures of the car taken during a video shoot at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in California, courtesy of the Facebook account of Pete Callaway, the California general manager of Callaway Cars.

The new roof is a single piece of carbon fiber and uses the original seal, hinge, and latch mechanism from the stock hatch. It also will save some weight – a few pounds, founder Reeves Callaway told us last year – and you can re-convert to the original style hatch at any time. At one point Callaway expected the conversion kit to cost $22,995, but last year Callaway said the price could be less than $15,000. Still no word on when to expect the kits to be available to customers, but this is a good sign the wait may finally be nearing an end.
