Hey guys,

I am just getting started on the rebuildable game and have an OBS Engine Nano, Avocado 24 and Geekvape Medusa on the way.

I would like to mainly use these in TC mode, and from what I read it looks like stainless steel is the best option in regards to stability/health safety.

However I am getting confused with all the types of stainless steel wires available.

Which type of SS is best for TC? 304, 308, 309, 316, 316L, or something else?!

Also, I bought a mod with both a factory-set SS mode and TCR mode. TCR is fair enough, however I am wondering what type of SS the factory-set SS mode is calibrated for (Smoant Battlestar 200W).

Any insight is appreciated!

The easiest to get is 316/316L - Hence Cheap and available. I'd personally recommend 316L

I don't know what the Set TCR is for SS but if you can edit it here is a table for you.

Note: NI is actually just fine, as long as you don't go in wattage mode with it. The temp. to make it dangerous is much higher than TC at max (600) (it's more than double that).. basically, don't dry heat/burn it and it's not an issue.

For SS, 316L is the standard.

I use 28 and 26 gauge and it works just fine BUT you have to make coils that have enough wraps, especially with single coils. SS heats very fast and can taste burn and metallic if you do coils that are too small and aren't wicking fast enough.

I had trouble for a long time with single coils made with SS, while dual coil decks worked just fine. I ended up doing coils with as many wraps as I could fit in my single coil RTA and finally got it working right. Figured that you need a certain amount of wire in there to get TC to register correctly.

I recommend to not aim for anything lower than 0.3 ohm. My 0.5 to 0.8omh coils have been absolutely great.

wow thanks, this actually solves my problem.
I'm having this problem with my Serpent Mini+SS316L coils, I did 6wraps at first, if I draw any longer than 3sec, boom! dry hit.. rewicking doesnt really help much, still getting that constant dry hits.
made a new coil with 8 wraps, reading at .5ohms, and fresh wicks, no more dry hits on 3+ sec draws (TC @ 26w, 480F), full on flavor! :D

I use 316L. You can buy it at very low prices from Temco and they include free shipping. Easy to work with, and lasts a long time.

Cheers, thanks guys.

Smoant which makes the new TC mod I just purchased also got back to me confirming that their SS mode is indeed calibrated for 316L.

So 316L it is. I've just ordered 20m worth of it in different gauges, should last me a long time.

Can't wait to get started on my RBA adventure as soon as my shipments arrive!

Have fun! just make sure that you test your ohm range and no need to try to go low with SS (as it heats up fast).. as per my previous post, 0.3 should be your minimal, but 0.5 and up to a 1.0ohm balanced with your wattage should work great for you, and note that I find that SS does work better with dual decks.

Just got my OBS Engine (22mm) in the mail today, so looking forward to give it a try!
