50-yr-old gay escapes lynching in Umuahia

Gay

Ogbonnaya Ikokwu, Umuahia

A man identified only as Onyeogbi escaped lynching by a mob last Wednesday after he was caught red having canal knowledge of an under-aged boy through the anus in a shop at the railway quarters in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

An eyewitness said the suspect, believed to be over 50 years, had been in the habit of moving around the area with boys.

It was gathered that a strange noise coming out of his shop attracted residents, who at about 8am, forced his shop open, where they met him forcing his manhood into one of the boys anus.

It was also learnt that while he was having sex with one of the boys, the other three were also naked, waiting for their turn.

The situation enraged the residents of the area, making them to parade the suspects round the area naked, while giving the man the beating of his life. It took the intervention of a police patrol team to rescue the man.

The suspects, however, refused to disclose their names, towns and reasons for engaging in sodomy.

A resident of the Railways quarters, who gave his name only Chidi, told Southern City News that the suspect lived a strange life and always brought in young boys from unknown places and usually spent the nights with them.

He added that some residents of the quarters had reported the man’s activities to a nearby police station in the past, but according to him, he was released after none of his relatives came to take him on bail.

He said, “We suspect that the boys abused by the gay may have been fetched from Isi-gate market where the suspect allegedly goes at night to pick homeless male-children.

“We believe that the man may also have people he is working for because we learnt that he pays the boys N5,000 after using them. We also gathered that he promised to introduce some of them to other gay men in town.

“To prove that he is not alone, the last time he was caught in the same act, some youths in the quarters locked the shop and asked him to leave the area. But to our dismay, he came back with an injunction from a lawyer, stating that nobody had the right to forcefully eject him from the quarters.”

It was learnt that the gay and the kids were later whisked away by the police to save them from the angry crowd which threatened to burn the man alive with used tyres.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ogbonaya Nta, confirmed the incident.

He added that the police patrol team stopped the mob from taking laws into their hands and reported the matter to the Central Police Station, Umuahia.
