Pythons are known for eating monkeys, rodents, lizards, birds and – in some cases – animals as large as elephants.

But the bigger animals often pose a challenge to the carnivorous reptile as the above clip displays.

The footage shows a huge python wrapping itself around a lifeless antelope in the long grass.

DINNER TROUBLE: The antelope's horns pose a problem for the hungry killer python

With its prey freshly dead, the only struggle is finding the perfect part of the animal to start feasting on.

But the hungry snake makes the mistake of choosing the fallen antelope's head to chomp through.

And it doesn't go to plan.

While trying to open its jaws wide the python's mouth gets caught on the horns of its dinner.

BYE BYE: The snake slithers away from its prey after being pierce by an antler

The snake recoils in shock as it struggles to rip its lips from the antlers.

For a moment it looks like the reptile's face might get turned completely inside out.

But the python manages to pull its jaws free and quickly slithers off into some bushes to avoid any further dinner drama.

Another monster python hit headlines recently when it threw up an antelope after attempting to devour it whole.
