Friday Five with Deborah Lloyd

Maybe the name Deborah Lloyd isn’t as recognizable as the brand she’s worked for since 2007, but it should be. As Chief Creative Officer of Kate Spade & Company, the British-born Lloyd has creatively championed the global brand through successful launches of home furnishings, ready-to-wear, jewelry, leg wear, beauty, swimwear, and children’s wear, as well as award-winning ad campaigns. She was also at the helm of the kate spade new york brand’s visual redesign that included reimagined store interiors, website, and logo, all key components of the company’s continued upswing of success. Besides handling product and store design, public relations, marketing, branding, and merchandising for kate spade new york, she does the same for the Jack Spade brand as well. The Brooklyn-based Lloyd received a Bachelor of Arts from the Ravensbourne College of Art and Design and a Master of Arts from the Royal College of Art in London prior to her work at Banana Republic and Burberry. Away from work, Lloyd sits on the Board of Directors of CFDA where she’s an active member. From an iconic car, a scent, and an exotic locale, she shares an eclectic mix of some of her favorite things, in this week’s Friday Five. Take a look!

1. Morocco
Morocco is the most inspirational place I have visited – from the dusky desert landscapes to the sensory overload of the souks in Marrakech to the tranquility of the Marjorelle Gardens. The colors, vistas, food and people are extraordinary.

2. Feu de Bois by Diptyque candle
I love the smoky scent. It makes anywhere feel like home.

3. 1961 E-type Jag series 1 flat floor
It is my favorite car and a design classic. I’m lucky enough to have one called Penelope Pitstop!

4. Peter Beard
I have collected his work for many years. When I first came to New York he had a gallery in Soho I visited so often. I remember saving up to buy the catalogue of his work.

5. Garden Roses
Flowers make me happy, especially these. Real garden roses smell beautiful and come in such fabulous shades. I love them mixed together in a rose bowl.
