Through the number of detractors that have come out of the Church of Scientology—and the books and the documentaries about the church—we've learned quite a bit about the nefarious organization in the past few years. Along with detailed accounts of alleged abuses against its members and its executives' obsessive protection of its image and secrets, we know that the church will go to great lengths to stifle the many former members who are now trying to spread the truth about Scientology.
Leah Remini has been promoting her A&E documentary series Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, which has been highly critical of Scientology. The organization has not been too happy about it—or her press tour promoting the program. As Conan O'Brien revealed last night, the Church of Scientology has gone to such lengths as sending him a personal letter in order to discredit Remini and her message. This has never happened before, he said—not in the nearly 24 years he's been doing this. Yes, this is a small maneuver compared to some of the more malicious means its members have used to quiet her, but it shows the relentless obsession it has with silencing its critics. What, it makes you wonder, are they trying so desperately to keep quiet?
