The SEA region looks primed to receive more ESL One events

With ESL One Genting recently behind us and a hugely positive response to the event, it seems as though we might be getting many more ESL events in Malaysia and the SEA region.

While nothing is confirmed, the massive turnouts for both ESL One Manilla last year and ESL One Genting have prompted ESL to continuously want to return to the SEA region. Ulrich Shulze, VP of Pro Gaming at ESL had this to say about the recent event at Genting’s Resort World,

After ESL One Genting 2017 we at ESL are once again humbled by the passion and commitment from Dota 2 fans in Southeast Asia. In cooperation with Resorts World Genting and our local partner Mineski we were able to successfully showcase legendary gameplay in the context of an amazing event experience to millions of viewers around the world.[redquote2]

From SEA’s point of view, the events have been a massive hit, with the Mall of Asia bringing in 16,000 people during ESL One Manilla – which contained numerous side activities such as shops, local food stores and arcade halls all in the same venue as the event. With regards to Genting, Kevin Tann who is the Vice President of Promotions and Entertainment at Resort World had the following to say,

Being a part of esports with ESL and kicking it off in the first weekend of January was one of the best decision we made. The crowd was awesome, the energy was addictive and the atmosphere during the three days was intense in a very positive way. Resorts World Genting certainly looks forward to further collaboration to bring esports in Malaysia to greater heights.

While nothing is official yet, from the looks of it, we will be re-visiting the SEA region a lot more in the future with ESL as the region seems to have a fantastic atmosphere when it comes to these events and many up-and-coming teams too.
