My sister recently asked me to make a whole bunch of crates for an event she was having. She was gonna stack them and use them as bookcases/display. She wanted them more on the rustic side so I was able to use up a lot of my scrap wood. I made a video to help show how I made these.

Step 1: Cutting the Wood

I started out by cutting the four supports for all the crates. The Supports were 13" and each one needed 4 supports. I cut the pieces to length on the miter saw. For the main side pieces to 23 inches and the side pieces to 16 inches. These pieces were 1 1/2 inch thick

Step 2: Attaching the Pieces of Wood to Each Other

I used glue and Brad nails to hold these crates together. I started with the two main sides. Once the main sides were done I made the other two smaller sides and joined them together.

Basically you attached three big boards to two supports. Then you take two thinner pieces and space them between the bigger slats. I followed the same process as before By glueing and racking the pieces in place. These aren’t going to hold a lot of weight so towards the end I stopped adding glue

I had quickly run out of scrap wood to use for these so I bought some 1x 2s to finish the order.

Step 3: Enjoy Your Crates!

Overall these crates were really easy to make and if you didn't want to cut any wood you could buy 1x2s form the home center and have them cut them to length for you. All you would need after that is some nails, glue, and a hammer.
