Mac DeMarco Announces New Album This Old Dog, Shares Two New Songs: Listen

“My Old Man” and “This Old Dog” are the first offerings from the record, out in May

Mac DeMarco has announced a new album, This Old Dog. The follow-up to 2015’s mini-album Another One (and his first full-length since 2014’s Salad Days) is out May 5 via Captured Tracks. Below, listen to two new songs from the album: “My Old Man” and “This Old Dog.” Scroll down for the full tracklist, cover artwork, and DeMarco’s upcoming tour dates.

DeMarco finished This Old Dog after moving to Los Angeles from Queens, New York, according to a press release. Explaining the process, he said, “I demoed a full album, and as I was moving to the West Coast I thought I’d get to finishing it quickly. But then I realized that moving to a new city, and starting a new life takes time. Usually I just write, record, and put it out; no problem. But this time, I wrote them and they sat. When that happens, you really get to know the songs. It was a different vibe.” DeMarco continued, “The majority of this album is acoustic guitar, synthesizer, some drum machine, and one song is electric guitar. So this is a new thing for me.”

According to the iTunes pre-orderThis Old Dog will also come packaged with instrumental versions of 11 out of the album’s 13 songs. (The instrumentals for “Sister” and “Watching Him Fade Away” are not included.)
