Mac DeMarco has announced a new album, This Old Dog. The follow-up to 2015’s mini-album Another One (and his first full-length since 2014’s Salad Days) is out May 5 via Captured Tracks. DeMarco finished This Old Dog after moving to Los Angeles from Queens, New York, according to a press release. Explaining the process, he said, “I demoed a full album, and as I was moving to the West Coast I thought I’d get to finishing it quickly. But then I realized that moving to a new city, and starting a new life takes time. Usually I just write, record, and put it out; no problem. But this time, I wrote them and they sat. When that happens, you really get to know the songs. It was a different vibe.” DeMarco continued, “The majority of this album is acoustic guitar, synthesizer, some drum machine, and one song is electric guitar. So this is a new thing for me.”
According to the iTunes pre-order, This Old Dog will also come packaged with instrumental versions of 11 out of the album’s 13 songs. (The instrumentals for “Sister” and “Watching Him Fade Away” are not included.)
