Ratings:

Last week’s episode of Suits did two extraordinary things. The first was it managed to rake in a season high in viewership. The second was that season high surpassed every episode aired during the most recent winter run.

The show’s 1.64 million live viewers that tuned in last week is significant because it’s the second week of major viewership growth for the show following a season of unfortunately weak ratings.

What didn’t change was The Sinner, which actually scored even with the previous week’s 1.84 million overall viewers. It will be very interesting to see where its ratings end up when paired with whatever Suits manages to pull in tonight for its summer finale.

Recap:

Darvey is real. After seasons spent teasing the eventuality of Donna and Harvey getting together, the walls have finally been broken down.

In addition, we now know all the different threads that are going to be dangling for the remaining six episodes of the season.

  1. Will Harvey and Donna end the season as a couple?
  2. How are Harvey and Louis going to deal with removing Jessica as name partner?
  3. What will be the moment that leads Alex to call upon his newly minted favor?

These three questions are going to drive the remainder of the season without a doubt. And, now we have a better idea of what a season eight trajectory could be.

If Harvey and Donna get together, there’s at least 10 episodes worth of story in watching them be in a new relationship and the potential drama of keeping it secret until they are ready to tell the world about their new status.

Then there’s the matter of Harvey and Louis who, after Jessica is officially off the wall, are going to find themselves in a whole new mess working to establish themselves as their own firm without the name of Pearson behind them.

After tonight, there are many new directions Suits can take to extend its journey far beyond what anyone expected after the end of Mike’s main arc.

While these new arcs aren’t as maddening as watching the genius boy hold on to the reality of not being a real lawyer, they are still quite juicy in their own right.

Tonight, Suits proved yet again that it will be done with its world when it chooses to be and no time sooner. Somehow, every season, the show managed to defy expectation in a way that leads to longevity, and this summer has been no different.
