Jenna Bush Hager calls for 'kindness' after she and her twin were blasted by 'cruel' Republicans for their interview with 'nasty' Hillary Clinton-supporting comedian Chelsea Handler

  • Jenna and her fraternal twin sister Barbara Bush appeared on Chelsea's Netflix talk show this week to promote their new book, Sisters First
  • The 35-year-old shared an Instagram snapshot of herself posed with Barbara and Chelsea outside of the show's studio
  • The comments section was quickly flooded with vitriol from Chelsea's critics, and many slammed the twins for doing the interview
  • Although critics claimed Chelsea 'hates' their father and grandfather, the 42-year-old told the twins she thinks George W. Bush is 'cute' during the interview
  • Unsurprisingly, Chelsea faced similar trolling from liberals criticizing the Bush twins after she posted the same photo on her Instagram page

The Bush twins had Chelsea Handler in stitches during their appearance on her Netflix show, but some of the sisters' fans are downright angry about their interview with the liberal comedian.

Jenna Bush Hager, 35, took to Instagram on Thursday to hit back at cruel commenters who slammed her and her fraternal twin Barbara for meeting with 42-year-old Chelsea, a vocal critic of the Republican party.

The vitriol Jenna received after posting a photo of herself posed with Barbara and Chelsea outside of the show's studio was so jarring that she returned to the post to remind people the importance of kindness regardless of politics.

'Three non blondes. Thanks @chelseahandler for the fun yesterday! X,' she originally captioned the snapshot, which sees the twins posed with their arms around Chelsea.

The comments section was quickly flooded with online trolls who called the talk show host 'vile' and 'disgusting,' prompting the mother-of-two to return to the post to write an amended caption.

'I rarely do this but some of the comments made are cruel,' Jenna explained. 'As my grandma said: if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. COMPASSION, KINDNESS above politics. Love only here, please.'

In the comments section, many people brought up Chelsea's controversial tweet regarding the recent church shooting in Texas that left 26 people dead.

'Innocent people go to church on Sunday to honor their God, and while doing so, get shot in killed. What country? America. Why? Republicans,' Chelsea tweeted on Sunday.

'She just blamed the Republicans last week for the church shooting?? Wasn’t President Bush a Republican?' one woman griped.

'Chelsea Handler is a disgusting person who blames Republicans for mass murders,' another person wrote.

Of course, Chelsea isn't the only person who has faulted Republicans and the National Rifle Association for stopping gun control policies in recent months, but Jenna's post has proved that some people are unwilling to look past politics even in the name of entertainment.

Someone called Jenna a 'hypocrite,' writing: 'Why would you post pictures with that stupid b**h that talks bad about Republicans and is such a hater?'

Others claimed they were going to unfollow the former first daughter.

'Bye Jenna.... Chelsea Handler? Really? You don’t know your audience too well,' one person commented.

Ironically, some questioned how they twins can call themselves Republicans — when they aren't actually members of the political party.

Although their father and grandfather are both former Republican presidents, Jenna is an independent and Barbara isn't affiliated with any political party. However, both sisters have made it clear that they are not supporters of President Trump.

Great time: Chelsea pointed out that Jenna looks like her father, and she admitted that she wasn't sure if that was supposed to be a compliment

While people shamed the twins for appearing on Chelsea's show, they insisted that the comedian hates their father George W. Bush and grandfather George H.W. Bush.

'What the crap?!! She hates your father and grandfather,' someone wrote.

Chelsea posted the same photo on her Instagram page with the caption, 'One bush, two bush, three bush,' and she ended up getting flack from liberals who were upset she had them on the show.

Plenty of online trolls slammed the Bush family in the comments section in the same way people criticized Chelsea on Jenna's post.

'Really? Making billions off a fake war at the cost of young American lives, while flushing our economy down the toilet for their own gain? F**k the Bush family,' one person wrote.

Despite the ire, there were also those who were happy to see three accomplished women putting politics aside and coming together.

However, it's probably safe to say that many critics didn't watch the sisters' appearance on the show, where they promoted their new memoir, Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life.

The interview included plenty of stories about their father, whom Chelsea admitted she thinks is 'cute.'

'You look a lot like your dad. You look more like your dad, don't you think?' Chelsea told Jenna, who couldn't resist asking: 'Is that a compliment?'

Jenna's comment had both of them leaning over and clutching their stomachs while laughing over her frank question.

'Thank you?' Jenna finally responded, but Chelsea made it clear that she was being complimentary.

'I think your dad's cute,' Chelsea admitted. 'I have always thought your dad's cute.'

The twins were surprised to hear this, and the talk show host joked: 'Well, I mean I didn't know how to bring it up. I find him cute. I mean listen, obviously he was cuter 20 years ago, but you know what I am saying.'

Chelsea went on to share a photo of their father and grandfather at in Houston for Game 5 of the World Series, where George W. threw the first pitch decked out in Astros gear, and Jenna gushed about their home state.

'We were just in Houston, and we helped with building some houses. It just feels good,' she said of helping the city recover in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.  'I mean Texans love each other. They reach out to each other. We can't forget about these places.'

Meanwhile, Barbara recalled her father throwing out the first pitch at a World Series game that took place in New York in October, right after 9/11.

'The Yankees were in the World Series. I went to go see it. It was one of the most memorable moments of my life because everyone was so nervous,' she said. If you think back to 9/11, to be in a space gathering, and all these New Yorkers were there. I remember being really worried.

'My dad was going to walk out into the middle of the stadium, and I almost looked away because I thought, "Something terrible could happen right now. He's so exposed." Instead he walked out, and he threw a perfect pitch. It was like every New Yorker in the stadium exhaled. I burst into tears immediately.

'He just acted like the dad that we knew. I mean he was strong and he just took responsibility. It was really beautiful,' she added.

There was plenty of laughter between the three, and Chelsea noted that their father's post 9/11 appearance at the Yankees World Series game was the first time they really saw their parents be affectionate in public.

'Our parents are very old school,' Barbara said, while Jenna added: 'They don't like PDA.'

Chelsea couldn't resist asking what they were like in private, and while Barbara said 'they're snuggling,' Jenna thought the talk show host meant something a bit more risque.

'We've never been in the private part,' Jenna joked. 'We're here so we assume there was something.'

Jenna once again had Chelsea laughing, and the host eventually explained that she was just asking if they are affectionate around their family.

'They hold hands, but its not like there are make-out sessions,' the younger Bush sister replied.

'Well, I would hope not,' Chelsea said. 'I mean that would be hard to watch as a daughter.'
