Roy Moore's communications director has resigned as sexual misconduct allegations continue to pile up against the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate.
The campaign official, John Rogers, confirmed his resignation Wednesday but declined further comment, reported the Washingtonian.
Moore has denied the claims of eight women who say the former state Supreme Court justice pursued them for sex or engaged in sexual activity with them decades ago, when they were teenagers and he was an assistant prosecutor in his 30s.
President Donald Trump, who has been accused of sexual misconduct himself by 16 women, backed Moore's campaign on Tuesday, saying he believed the GOP candidate's denial over his accusers.
The Moore campaign also refused Wednesday to substantiate a claim intended to raise doubts about one accuser's account, reported the Washington Post.
The newspaper, which initially reported the accuser's claims against Moore, asked for proof of documents the Moore campaign says show Leigh Corfman lived more than a mile from the intersection where she said the candidate picked her up for dates in 1979, when she was 14 and he was 32.
“The Washington Postis a worthless piece of crap that has gone out of its way to railroad Roy Moore,” Brett Doster, a strategist for the Moore campaign, wrote in an email he described as an “on the record” statement.
