Xbox One X pre-orders are back (update)

Microsoft today announced that pre-ordering is now open for the Xbox One X, which is due for release on Nov. 7. The company previously ran a pre-order campaign for the Xbox One X Scorpio Edition — which included a vertical stand — but that quickly sold out.

Microsoft has long boasted that the Xbox One X will be “the world’s most powerful console.” The console’s GPU boasts 40 Radeon compute units running at 1172 MHz. On the CPU side, there are eight custom x86 cores at 2.3 GHz, 31 percent faster than the original Xbox One. The Xbox One X includes 12 GB of GDDR5 RAM — 9 GB of which is available to developers, and 3 GB of which is reserved for the system — with a total memory bandwidth of 326 GB/s. It costs $499.

Microsoft has not released any information on stock levels for this new retail campaign. Some retailers, such as GameStop, are offering discounts based on trade-ins of standard Xbox One consoles.

According to Microsoft, more than 130 games are planned to be released with enhancements for for Xbox One X, or backwardly enhanced in the case of games already out. You can take a look at one Xbox One X game coming this fall, in our Forza Motorsport 7 video preview.

Update: GameStop announced that it will begin taking Xbox One X pre-orders today at 12 p.m. CT.

Best Buy said today that it will have Xbox One X kiosks available in 20 stores around the U.S., starting this weekend, for customers to try the new console. Games available to play will include Madden NFL 18, Forza Motorsport 7, FIFA 17, Minecraft, Final Fantasy 15, Super Lucky’s Tale and Rocket League. Demos will be available from noon to 7 p.m. local time on Saturday, Sept. 23, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24. You can look for a participating Best Buy store near you, if there is one.
