Acclaimed British actor Sir John Hurt dies at 77

The great British actor John Hurt has died at the age of 77.

A Knight of the Realm the performer appeared in a number groundbreaking films.

He played the role of John Merrick in the ‘The Elephant Man’ and Winston Smith in ’1984.’

Hurt’s reputation as a character actor was secured for his portrayal of Quentin Crisp in the 1975 film ‘The Naked Civil Servant.’

He appeared in the Harry Potter films and has a role in ‘Jackie’ the movie about the life of Jackie Kennedy currently on release.

He recently underwent treatment for pancreatic cancer and intestinal issues.

He is survived by his wife Anwen Rees-Myers, to whom he was married for 12 years.
