Someone once said, "There must be more than this provincial life." While you might be able to sympathize with the sentiment, sometimes a provincial little town is exactly where you'd like to be. And once you've taken in all that it has to offer, a castle might be calling your name, and perhaps a gorgeous cathedral and a rose garden. There's no reason you have to choose just one.
You can live happily ever after at any of these locales that seem like they could've been pulled right from the silver screen, and make believe you're starring in your very own version of Beauty and the Beast.
Eguisheim, France
Eguisheim, a member of the association for the most beautiful villages of France, is so reminiscent of the town featured in the film that we can hardly believe our eyes. Admittedly, the village in the movie was based on nearby locations, but this one looks so incredibly charming.
Bayeux, France
Mere miles from the coast of Normandy, there's plenty to see and do in Bayeux as it's a historical hotbed. Besides the sites appealing to World War II buffs, the town is quite scenic and reminds you of Belle's quaint mill cottage.
Chateau de Chambord |Loir-et-Cher, France
The Beast's castle was actually modeled after Chateau de Chambord, which was originally constructed as a hunting lodge. The vast estate is the largest Chateau in the Loire Valley with 440 rooms to wander.
Sainte-Chapelle | Paris
You'll fully understand why Sainte-Chapelle in Paris is a UNESCO World Heritage Site once you've experienced the majesty of its stained glass. Numbering 1,113, the beautiful windows are evocative of the story told on stained glass at the beginning of the movie.
Pub 199 | Mt. Arlington, N.J.
Pub 199 is far removed from the French settings so reminiscent of the film, but the atmosphere is pure Gaston. Mounted heads surround the mantle of a stone fireplace, so I guess they really do use antlers in all of their decorating.
Stiftsbibliothek St. Gallen | Gallen, Switzerland
This is what library dreams are made of. You can only imagine what Belle would think of the Abbey Library of Saint Gall, another World Heritage Site, dating back to the 1700s.
St. Vitus Cathedral | Prague
Who can forget the grand gargoyles which stand guard at the castle of the Beast? You'll find several like them at St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, some of which have been modeled after people instead of animals.
Biltmore Estate | Asheville, N.C.
Once home to one of America's royal families, the Biltmore Estate was the vision of George Vanderbilt II. Situated among the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, the stately home is like something out of a storybook.
Elizabeth Park Rose Garden | Hartford, Conn.
Just about anywhere with roses might remind you of Beauty and the Beast, but we chose this amazing rose garden for its plentiful photo ops and fairy tale backdrops.
Palace of Queluz | Queluz, Portugal
Of course, this list wouldn't be complete without a ballroom and the one located at the Palace of Queluz (just outside Lisbon) bears a pretty striking resemblance. You can practically hear "Tale as Old as Time" being belted out.
