According to the Express, the Red Devils will make a swoop for Willian in the winter transfer window should his situation remain the same.

And with reports linking Chelsea to Paris Saint-Germain forward Lucas Moura, the ex-Shakhtar Donetsk star could be seen as surplus to requiremnents.

United managed to prise away Nemanja Matic from Stamford Bridge in the summer, while they also tried to nab Willian before the end of the window.

Chelsea would prefer offloading the fan favourite to the Chinese Super League, but know the temptation to link up with Mourinho once more could prove costly.

Willian - Chelsea's Player of the Season in the 2015/16 campaign - has been restricted to just 21 minutes in his last three league games.

And with the World Cup looming in the summer, he knows he has to be playing regular football to be included in Tite's Brazilian squad.

Speaking to Football Focus recently, he said: "Of course I want to play every game, but I respect every decision because we have great players in the squad, so you have to respect Conte’s decision.

"But every player wants to play."

While he confirmed United were interested in his services in the summer in a separate interview to UOL.

Willian said: "I had contact with Manchester United but I was not close to leaving.

"Of course, sometimes you get upset that you’re not playing.

"But that doesn’t mean you do not like the club or the people who work there."
