Southern Luxury – The Mandarin Oriental Atlanta

“When we feel known, it changes who we are” – Annie Downs

Bucolic byways and welcoming hosts have been Southern fixtures for centuries. Well, I’m pleased to report that Southern hospitality is alive and quite well at the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta; where guests are welcomed in the warm embrace and luxurious intimacy of a Southern estate.

Entry

It is immediately apparent to the arriving guest that the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta exudes the experience of arriving at the home of a dear friend; sure to receive a warm greeting, and comforted that however weary you may be from travel, your hosts care about nothing more than your supreme enjoyment.

Interior

Entering the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta, the property’s cozy architecture guides the guest toward an array of warm sitting and dining areas, including toward a majestic bar drenched in natural light. Here are some images from my short tour:

Accommodations

The Mandarin Oriental Atlanta offers a variety of room and suite categories: Superior, Deluxe, Mandarin, Mandarin Premier, Mandarin Terrace, Premier Terrace, Terrace Two-Bedroom Suite, Mandarin Suite, and Two-Bedroom Family Room. Here are some images of the Mandarin Suite, courtesy of the hotel:

English Garden

Punctuating the hotel’s interior is its English Garden, accentuating the guest’s connection to both the property and the environment. I gazed at the Garden from the interior of the hotel, and – as I suspect most guests do – was drawn outside to stroll leisurely in the verdant space, and raise my face to the sun. Water

Aligning with the theme of visiting a friend’s lavish estate, the property features a breathtaking and expansive indoor pool to splish and splash to your heart’s content; which is expertly framed by sumptuous stone walls and glassy views of the English Garden a few feet outside.

Spa

The Spa at the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta offers numerous types of Treatments and Therapies in an extravagant setting; including the option of Spa Suites for couples. I enjoyed a heavenly Oriental Essence Massage. Here are some images from my experience at the Spa:

Closing Thoughts

Travel is inherently impersonal – stark airports, hastily prepared food, uninspired hotels, and oftentimes a weariness that seeps deep into the traveler’s bones. Yet, it is these characteristics that provide the contrast necessary to truly value the unique and meaningful travel experiences that stand out in our mind’s eye.

The Mandarin Oriental Atlanta seeks to imbue its guests with the sense of belonging and welcoming one experiences when visiting the home of a close friend; that travel is more than departing and arriving. Most importantly, the hotel – through its people – shows that travel is transformative when travelers and hosts truly share time and space, and shape memories that transcend the drudgery of a journey without meaning or joy.

I urge you to visit the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta to see and feel for yourself the experience of visiting the home of a close friend; of feeling known as you walk through the front doors. Then take a leisurely stroll through the English Garden. You’ll wonder how it took you so long to find your second home, but then that will pass, and you’ll simply be grateful.

Thanks so very much to Ify, Darrell, Melanie, Tony, Sophie, and Jayson at the property for making us feel so welcome, and to Sophie for all of her help with this visit, and for the use of the high resolution images!

Please take note that the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta welcomed me as a special media guest, but that my opinions are, as always, entirely my own.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to read this article, and happy dining and traveling!
