Local wedding industry pro says Crescent City is a hot destination for nuptials

People anticipated star-sightings in the Warehouse District Thursday night as the buzz of a celebrity wedding spread.Serena Williams married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in New Orleans.The two got hitched at the Contemporary Arts Center. The guest list was full of A-listers, but also in town were some of Williams's fans, who drove hours to get a glimpse of the bride on her wedding day.Cora Riley and her friend stood across from the CAC watching as vendors set up for the wedding of the season."We drove from DeRidder because we just want to see her. I'm a very loyal fan," Riley said.When asked if she planned to stay all night, Riley said, "I have a 10-hour parking for $12, so we're going to stay 10 hours if it takes it."The venue was expected to be full of A-listers, including friends Beyonce, Solange Knowles and Eva Longoria. Longoria and her husband also attended the rehearsal dinner Wednesday night at Meril's."I heard that she wore an amazing Versace dress for her rehearsal dinner, which was at Meril's. She paid to have the entire space rented out, and she wore Nike shoes with said Versace dress," New Orleans wedding industry professional Fresh Johnson said.Johnson, who owns Elle R Jae Events, said the CAC is a perfect place for the celebrity crowd. "I imagine lights in the sky, I imagine security having the area on lock, but I imagine it being a production," Johnson said. She added that New Orleans also provides a culture and feel that many lovers can't resist. "We have an awesome wedding community here, so we can literally take someone from anywhere and give them the best day of their life, and celebrities want to opt in on that as well," Johnson said, "It's no surprise that Serena chose New Orleans as her destination." There was secrecy surrounding the wedding, but paparazzi were outside the venue snapping photos as vendors made deliveries and set up for the evening.
