Update (1/23): If you happen to own a Xperia Z3+, Z3+ Dual or Z4 Tablet, we're sorry to say that the Nougat update for your devices has been halted, as well. In a statement to Xperia Blog, Sony says it has been made aware of some inconsistencies relating to audio playback and has halted the Nougat update for these devices.

You can find the full statement attached below:

We were made aware of reports from some users experiencing inconsistencies related to audio playback via third-party apps and SD card encrypted data read performance, after upgrading to Android 7.0, Nougat. We’ve identified the root cause and are aiming to provide corrective firmware and re-commence the rollout as soon as possible.

Sony first announced it would begin rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to the Xperia Z3+ and Z3+ Dual less than a week ago, and the Z4 Tablet followed soon after that. We're hoping Sony can fix these issues soon, and we'll let you know if we hear any updates.

Original post (1/20): Sony might have halted its Android Nougat rollout for the Xperia Z5, according to a report from Xperia Blog. The rollout began earlier this week, however it’s reportedly now unavailable on devices where it previously appeared. Further, Xperia Blog says the software isn’t on Sony’s servers, as it should be.

Sony may have pulled the update after learning of a potentially harmful bug or critical issue with the software. Manufacturers typically roll out updates on a small scale to begin with in order to test reliability, before deploying it on all handsets. That said, Sony has successfully rolled out the software to a number of other devices already, which means critical issues with it are unlikely.

Given Sony hasn’t made an announcement, we can only speculate, but it could simply be a mistake or malfunction.
