Straight Edge #1

Silver Edge

All I’ve ever wanted is to fit in.

But no one can ever see past how weird I am. Bright lights? Can’t stand them. Loud noises? Definitely sends me over the edge. And touching? Forget about it.

At least, until I met Drake.

From the moment I walked into that nightclub, I finally felt like I belonged somewhere. And when Drake touched me, it didn’t send me into a tailspin of sensations that I couldn’t stand. It actually felt…nice. Like something I could get used to. And it doesn’t hurt that he’s probably the hottest guy I’ve ever seen.

But now someone wants to close the club down. And since I promised Drake that I’d help him keep it open, I’m going to have to find a way to tap into whatever that inner strength thing is that everyone always talks about. And fast. But what happens if I can’t?

All right! This will be a short and a maybe a little bit sweet rant? LOL.

Silver Edge's blurb was so enthralling. The touch thing got me all excited and shit so I requested it.

Even though, I do believe the storyline was unique and that the book had a lot of potential, the heroine or, rather, the way the author made her succumb to the hero's touch so easily, kinda ruined the book for me. That and the heroine's "I can take care of myself" bullshit got on my nerves. The hero was this incredible man that not only was sexy but he also understood and respect her needs and she was babbling that shit every 10 seconds, girl, I got it but c'mon he wanted to take care of you, damn it!

The 3 STARS goes entirely to Drake and the plot because they fucking deserve it. Thats all. Sorry but it just didn't work for me.

I have loved everything that I have read by Ciara Knight but this has to be hands down my favorite book by her. It's a change from what she usually writes with her sweet romance. There's so much drama and Drake is so hot! Once I started reading Silver Edge, there was no putting this book down. I am so excited for other readers to be able to experience this book. I hope Ciara Knight plans to write more of these characters I really enjoyed them. The main female lead has so much to over come, Im sure a lot of us will be able to relate to her story as well as the male leads. This is def one of my favorite reads this year. If you love hot guys and romance thatll have you on an emotional roller coaster and biting your nails, this is def one for you.

I am officially in a reading slump. Although the blurb sounded perfect, the execution was just ‘meh’ for me. I wanted something angsty and maybe a little bit dark. All the elements were here but I just wasn’t feeling any of it. Scarlet was a hard character to decipher and the 1st POV made it hard to get a good read on Drake.

I wasn’t going to finish this one but I was at 83% and figured I made it this far, might as well see it through.

Long story short: Scarlet is a troubled teen who lost her mother at 9, had one horrible foster family after another until she ended up on the streets, strung out on drugs and barely surviving. Her one true friend, is Ton, a giant strict teddy bear of a man who found her and cared enough to get her clean and give her a second chance at life.

When she sets out to prove she can cut it on her own, Scarlett meets Drake.

Drake’s club is going bankrupt and after taking over for his deceased brother, Drake is desperate to save the most important link to his brother that he has left. Meeting Scarlet changed not only how he sees the club, but it makes him want to change to be worthy of someone special like her.

Both MCs are damaged but together they start to heal and find new experiences to smooth out the sad memories they each carry within themselves.

This is definitely a dark read, not too angsty but also not too emotionally charged. It freely mentions a lot of real life issues that can be triggers for some. Although a decent read, I felt like the story was dragged out too much with a lot of words but no action. And the drama was a bit too forced for my taste. It got a bit too soap opera-like and seemed it was pushed in for the sake of having some kind of drama.

Memorable Moment:
I really liked Scarlet and Linda (Drake’s Nana). Their interactions were always really good. I think the way things ended hurt the story more than anything. It was so rushed and there was literally no processing the situation for Scarlett.

Would I recommend?
Although I didn’t hate it, I don’t see myself recommending this one. It was just really slow and without direction one minute and too OTT and exaggerated then next.

"Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review"
I enjoyed this book from the wounded heroine perspective. I think it was a very realistic and vivid approach to a specific condition and the suffering it causes, involving serious issues such as mental illness, addiction, homelessness or child abuse, amongst others. The description of the heroine’s symptoms, problems and pain is so detailed and intense that, sometimes, we, readers, get also uncomfortable with the sensorial overload. In my opinion Ciara Knight – an author whose work I like –, and the publisher, took a risk writing about a heroine that is far from perfect and who can be hard do love – and kudos for that! I can’t say if it is accurate or not but it sure feels believable and well researched.
Having said this, let me confess that I didn’t quite connect with the heroine, despite her horrific past and life – because I would prefer a wounded hero? Because the pain is so intense that sometimes I didn’t want to know about it anymore? Because I usually don’t like Young fiction with first person POV (but this book is well written)? Well, I’m not sure.
Furthermore, I’m not a fan of insta-attraction stories too and things happened really quickly, with the hero – who had a dramatic event in his life too – being super understanding; and all that talking and pseudo-psychoanalysis isn’t really my cup of tea.
So I’ve enjoyed this story so “outside the box of normal” – as Ciara Knight acknowledges in the afterword, and I hope the author and Entangled Publishing will continue to take these kind of chances.
I'm grateful to the publisher, Entangled Publishing, the author, Ciara Knight, and NetGalley for providing a free copy.

So this was my first Ciara Knight read and woo hoo!!! I really liked it. It's so different and fresh full of sweet romance and hot talks. The plot had a different vibe and I adored it. Once I started reading this book, I was unable to keep it down and guys I lost my beauty sleep because of this book but I don't regret reading this.

---Characters---

Silver Edge introduces us to Scarlet who has a condition because of which she can't bear loud noises and bright lights and touch definitely sends her over an edge. She has spent her childhood in foster system and streets. She has a really tortured past and is continuously trying to escape her demons but in vain. Inspite of her miserable past and weird condition, she tries her best to become independent and make something out of her life.

Enters Drake *fans self*, a hot-shot nightclub owner. He is the definition of tall, dark and handsome and has that "stay away" vibe about him which all the bad boys have. He is full of mystery and secrets. He has his own problems and some serious past issues. His nightclub is experiencing a major downfall and is on the brink of falling apart but he is determines to save it and bring his miserable life back on track.

---The Relationship---

description

I loved everything about Scarlet's and Drake's relationship. It developed with time. There was no insta love but the sexual tension was burning the charts. Scarlet and Drake accepted each other and helped each other to bury their past. They were the perfect match. Drake was always so patient with Scarlet even after knowing about her condition. He never forced or pressurized her in doing something she didn't want to do. Scarlet on the other hand did everything to save Drake's club. She ignored her weaknesses and became Drake's strength. Their regular banter added the much needed humor in the story.

---The Plot---

I really really really loved the plot. It's so different and fresh. This is the story in which author gives us a perfect bad boy hero but a hard to love heroine. I mean we all love tortured heroes but it's a bit difficult to love a heroine who is so full of shit and regrets but the author did an amazing job *kudos* The story is quite realistic and is very well written. There is drama, mystery, angst, sweet talks, dirty talks, cuddling and some hot makeouts. I kind of got wrapped up in this story and loved how Scarlet found herself with Drake's help. The story flowed at a very comfortable pace but that ending kind of spoiled everything. It was really rushed and left me like "What the hell did just happened?"

--Why 4/5 stars?--

I really wanted to give 5 reading owls (5 stars) but that ending spoiled everything. Everything was going so good and then suddenly everything fell apart and I sat their with the kindle in my hand staring at the screen asking myself "What the hell did just happened?" Don't get me wrong, HEA is definitely there but the author just rushed with the ending and the book ended before I was able to wrap my head around everything that just happened but all in all it was an amazing read!!

Silver Edge by Ciara Knight left me feeling kind of divided. It started as such a great read, introducing us to such an intriguing female character and a guy that really understood her.

I loved the deep feelings the author managed to evoke with me for “Einstein”. I really felt like I could understand her struggles. Then there was Drake a kind of unusual guy with what seemed like several faces – or at least a Now & Then face.

This book was honestly heading for a straight 5 star review … and than the last 10% happened.

It really felt like “happened” – because the story was floating as it should and naturally the reader knows that there has to come a kind of crescendo with a turn of events as most books have but it honestly felt like this story suffered an accident rather than experiencing a climax.

The well developed character of Drake lost himself in ramblings that made no sense whatsoever… And even with all the given issues I would have expected more of a person that is called “Einstein” – not to spoiler anything majorly I am just saying 3 words :

Contact ?

Grandmother !

Coffeeshop ! followed by my thought : “ if they really had wanted it….. ”

There were just too many incidents happening at one time that together with silly excuses ruined the ending for me.

Still it is a good story (sounds strange I know) it is just that when an author manages to engage me AND my feelings (that is what is needed for a 5 star review-> feelings) the result will also be an emotional one if something is not done as the story would have deserved it.

This is just my very personal opinion and I think I will pick up another book by this author to see how she handles the crescendo in other cases …

I loved the unique storyline in Silver Edge. Readers get the hot romance, great storyline, hot alpha lead and amazing heroine with a strong emotional connection and hot chemistry.

The best part of this book was Drake. Hands down he was an incredible hero who not only was sexy but he understood and respected the needs of the heroine. He never made her feel like she was less of a person or someone who was a burden with a disability. It was heartwarming and sexy. I also loved Scarlett's strength. Here was a woman who had no quit in her. She was so tough and resilient. It was a fabulous and admirable trait and proved that she was a fantastic match for Drake.

While I did feel the ending was rushed, all in all, this was a great story and I look forward to more from this author in the future. I would like to thank NetGalley and Entangled Publishing LLC for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. 3.5 stars ~Ratula

Ciara Knight's latest novel is amazing. You get your romance, your tortured souls, and you'll get something extra with Scarlet that I haven't seen in a character before. It made me fall in love with her more, though. It was awesome to see it depicted and how it is handled. I hated knowing that she didn't get to say goodbye. I know I surely hated saying goodbye to this book.

Silver Edge is a book so unlike others. And that is what I loved about this one. It's uniqueness. I was so surprised by this book. It hooked me from the very beginning and didn't let me go until the end. I could not put this one down, because I had to know what happened next. And plus, I was very, very intrigued. I have read a few books by Ciara, but this one is very different from what she usually writes. This is my favorite book from her!! She did a fantastic job with character development. The characters showed a lot of growth by the end, especially Scarlet. I also love how these characters had a lot of depth to them. Drake and Scarlet both had troubled pasts, and yet still came out strong and passionate.

I loved that this book was from Scarlet's point of view. Scarlet has Asperger's which makes her a truly special woman. I can tell Ciara put a lot of research into this character with what people with Asperger's go through. The sensory issues, loud noises, light. Scarlet was a mathematical genius and flat out awesome when it came to music. I loved being inside Scarlet's head, seeing what she was feeling and understanding what she was going through. I was able to connect with her on such a deeper level because of that. Scarlet has been through so much, and I felt sorry for her. She had no clue what was going on with her. Had no clue she even had Asperger's. She was diagnosed with so many different things that I truly felt for her. So when she ran off and moved to Atlanta, everything changed for her. She met Drake, and he wasn't like anyone she has ever been with before. His touch didn't bother her after a while. He could give her so many experiences that she never felt. Feelings she didn't know she was capable of feeling. I loved seeing her slowly change. She became stronger and independent.

Scarlet had a very troubled path. After her mom's death she was switched to foster care. Having so many bad experiences with those, she ran away a few times. She was having promiscuous sex and taking drugs. Anything she could get her hands on to numb herself. Ton found her and brought her to Straight Edge, a community to help those get on the right path. With the help of Ton and the community she did. She wanted to be able to manage on her own so she ran away and moved to Atlanta. Everything changed for her in Atlanta. I got see Scarlet in a whole new light.

Drake was a fantastic male heroine. I loved how he was with Scarlet. How he wanted to do everything right by her. He also had a troubled path. He was the rich snob who only cared about himself. Hurt others around him. Then in one night, he lost everyone he ever loved. He was dead inside, and Scarlet slowly started to awaken him. He was scared though. He didn't want to rush anything, because he was afraid he would lose her as well. Drake wanted to actually experience all the feelings that goes along with love since he never experienced it before. And Scarlet hasn't either. So that was a first for them. That is what I loved about him. He wanted their relationship to actually mean something.

I loved Drake and Scarlet's relationship. I was really wanting them to end up together. I just wish that their relationship moved a little slower. Yes he took his time on the sex part, but everything else moved a little fast with them. I wanted to see their relationship slowly grow into something more. But these two had the insta-love feelings going on. Other than that, I loved this book!

That ending was a shock for me! I was really hoping what was supposedly going on wasn't actually going on. Every sign pointed that way though and poor Scarlet was so crushed. I had no many thoughts running through my head over this trying to analyze if I missed something. I was so confused and about ready to be highly upset.

Silver Edge was a riveting story from start to finish. This story took me on an amazing journey through love, loss, pain and self discovery. I am really hoping we get another book about Scarlet and Drake. I was definitely left wanting more. So I am really hoping for another book!

This was the first book I've read by Ms. Knight and I loved it! Total different story than I am used to and it totally keep me interested. Once I started the book I was unable to put it down. Drake a guy who has lost his family and wants to make them proud of his accomplishments vs just enjoying life for a change runs a club in Atlanta that was his brother's. But realizes he has not been putting his full effort into it and is now in trouble of losing it.
Scarlet a girl who has many issues in life is just looking for a home and a job to take care of herself. When she leaves New York to try and accomplish that she ends up on Drake's doorstep by accident. When she proves herself to him as a worker and shows him what this club can accomplish they are both excited. Scarlet is a different person than most with her adversions to things most people never think of. The story line is done perfect and the chemisty is off the charts. Look forward to more of Ms. Knight's work. Honest review in exchange for ARC.

This is the first book I can recall reading by this author. Young adult is not a genre I read frequently, but the cover for this one caught my attention. Once I started reading, Scarlet's snarky standoffish attitude made me curious. I had to know why she was that way and what was going to happen to her. Drake also caught my attention and held my interest. He seemed to understand Scarlet and have the patience to take things slowly and earn her trust. The story also had a fair amount of suspense although not of the typical damsel in distress type. It kept a line of tension throughout the story that kept me hanging in for the resolution. I'm sure I will read more Ciara Knight.

Silver Edge gives a unique perspective, and I really appreciate that. Scarlet is a young woman with issues and a particular condition that made her take drugs and engage in risky, promiscuous sex. But, now she's sober and determined to make it in society on her own. So she runs from Ton, her rescuer and savior, and goes to the job he had helped her get. It's there that she meets Drake, a sexy guy with a good heart. It's Drake with whom she will eventually fall in love, the man who helps calm the anxious parts of her mind and soul.

I have to say that some of the tangents that both Scarlet and Drake go off on took me out of their story a bit, but I also think that those tangents were part of their unique characters, so I can't begrudge Ciara for including them. I really felt their connection, and appreciate it. I like the slow burn of their journey, and how they took their time getting to know each other.

I think my favorite part of Silver Edge is Drake, he's the ultimate hero: he's kind, sexy, and has a big heart even though he's working through his own set of problems. He is so patient and understanding with Scarlet, and helps her so much. Scarlet was a little harder to like, but I respect her for all that she's gone through and fought to get past. She's pretty remarkable in her own way, too.

About the only thing I didn't like about Silver Edge is the abrupt, rushed ending. An epilogue would have helped enormously to fix this problem.

Guys...this was an amazing book!

Scarlet has led a difficult life. No family, no one who cares about her except one Straight Edge leader named Ton. She is truly on her own in a world that doesn't understand her and a world she doesn't understand. She takes off on her own and meets a man who changes everything.

This was really emotional and at times difficult to read. Scarlet has some real issues and Ciara Knight has done a wonderful job at paying careful attention to details and writing Scarlet in an honest way. Drake is almost too good to be true. He just has all the right moves and words to put Scarlet at ease.

The story itself was good. A little bit of growing up, a little bit of letting people in and a lot of finding oneself all mix together with characters you root for to create this endearing story.

This one is a fantastic beginning if it is for this series with the meaning explained perfectly in book. Plenty of characters to surround you with a story that is refreshing because it is different. Ton lets Scarlet get out on her own but reasons will be revealed down the road. You will find she is the most intriguing female in ages that will capture you immediately. She is more than a survivor also with putting a Cheshire grin on a face when she gets into the club called Bands. As you see her in action she has you now like putty in hands and away you go on her adventure. Drake will also find her like no one else but a bit like his brother was but unique all the same. You will love every mark in time as they build on the relationship like no other. Walls and bumps will have you on edge but faith will be on her side. By the time you get to the finish you will be cheering from the sidelines as if you are there too. This will put you over the edge as a fantastic read.

Ciara Knight is an author’s name I had seen but had never had the pleasure of reading one of her books. I also had associated her with small town romance. Boy was I misguided, she can sure write romance with anyone who are anywhere. It is listed as a Straight Edge Novel but read fine on its own. I would read more by this author who gives the reader such realistic unique characters. It is not your usual romance, definitely original.

Silver Edge has characters who don’t give up on life or each other, in spite of some difficult life struggles. The story line flows briskly with a rapid finish. Because of that I hope to see more of Drake and Scarlet in a future story. These are characters that hold your interest, making it a character driven story.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.

I just completed an amazing ARC by Ciara Knight! If you’re looking for a book full of heart with two strong-willed people, pick up a copy of “Silver Edge”.

I absolutely loved the characters of Scarlet and Drake. These two individuals had been broken by life and somehow managed to pick themselves up off the ground. Knight did a wonderful job depicting someone with sensory perception issues. I didn’t need a title on the disorder to realize Scarlet had a serious problem. It was handled in such a graceful manner that I kept wondering who did Knight know with the disorder. Scarlet was so real. I understood how she felt and my heart ached for her.
Drake had his own issues due to the way he chose to conduct his life. Because of unintentional mistakes he had to find different ways to cope. He wasn’t doing so well until he met Scarlet and found a new reason to live.

There was so much realism in this book I had to Google things. Yes, the Straight Edge Community does exist. I think the way Knight depicted the community was done very well.

Honestly, I can’t think of one thing I didn’t like about “Silver Edge”. I loved how it progressed and ended it. The book was simply perfect.

You can’t go wrong reading “Silver Edge” by Ciara Knight.

This is the first book I have read by Ciara Knight and Oooooo! I liked it! It had a different vibe than most books I've read that have this kind of story line. I think because Drake never tried to take advantage of Scarlet's situation, but instead tried to help her. He was patient and understanding with her. He wanted her badly but held off until he felt she was really ready. Scarlet was a different type of character as well. Instead of your typically "damaged" heroine, she obviously had some type of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Having been misunderstood and shuffled around most of her life she didn't understand what was wrong with her. She knew the things that were her triggers and tried to either avoid them or work past them as best she could. I loved that Drake didn't try to "fix" her. It helped that his brother had apparently had ASD as well. He tried to help her but understood she would always have some quirks and he loved her for them. I'm glad she kept pushing herself and trying to accomplish things on her own.

I loved the two of them together and how they helped bring healing to each other. The book was very "PG". While it worked with the story I really wanted more heat. I would have liked an epilogue as well. It just sort of ended.

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and finding out whose story it is.

I've professed my love for differently-abled MCs before, and Scarlet, who suffers from Aspergers, was a wonderful addition to the 'more than normal' character-set I've been collecting. The way Knight portrays her issues and differences was very sympathetic and realistic, and giving her the gift of Drake was a wonderful thing to do. I don't think I've read any of Knight's work before, but I'll definitely be looking out for it if the rest is anything like this. A real love story, and a tale of human kindness and winning over adversity, without being sappy and fluffy.

I didn't know much about this book before I started reading it but what I got was a fantastic, unique story with some incredible characters. I truly loved just about everything this story gave me. My only complaint is that the ending seemed rushed. Not bad enough to take away from the entire story but I think it could have been a bit more emotional. With that said, you don't want to miss this emotional roller coaster of a story. Scarlet definitely had her set of issues to deal with but her connection with Drake and the incredible way he treated her tugged at my heart. Drake was, well, perfect! He has his own issues to deal with but he takes the time to really get to know and understand Scarlet. Never making her feel anything but special. This one has all the feels. I definitely recommend it.

Don't judge a book by its cover... that applies to this book. I was really surprised by this one. Young Scarlet is 19 years old and has had a very rough past. Rescued by Ton and his organization Straight Edge she is trying to keep her life in line while battling with serious issues. At first I thought I was not going to like this book as I dislike books about drugs, alcohol and such but soon I could not put this book down. And NO, it is not about addiction and sex at all.

I will reveal Scarlet has an illness on the autism scale (I believe) and the story how she meets Drake and helps him to save his failing bar is really touching.
Scarlet can't stand touching and loud noises and he is so sweet with her and so caring.

Great book!!
I do wish there was more of an epilogue, but maybe there will be more books so we can read how Scarlet and Drake are doing in the future.

This book was kindly given to me by Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, I loved the characters and was able to connect with them on an emotional level. I wanted to watch them grow and succeed together. I loved the relationships (romance and other) I hope to see more of them in the future books. I just wish I could have gotten more out of the ending. The ending is what brought it down for me. While it was good, it was just too rushed.

Silver Edge is one of the most intense story I have read so far. Not only because is not your typical love story by this extraordinary author but the journey of Scarlet and Drake will have you permanently in awe of this characters.

You have two broken souls that will try and help each other but their demons are too strong to be able to defeat them so easy. In one hand you have Scarlet a young lady with a horrific past and huge ugly demon to be conquer. On the other you have Drake a man with demons from his past that makes him vulnerable.

This level of greatness that is showcase in this story is incredible. I for one recommend this book for years to come.

On average, I read 200 books a year. Silver Edge is by far one of my favorite books. Such a unique heroine and awesomely written! Scarlet has issues with touch, light and sound. After drugs and sex, she is sober and trying to make it in the world on her own. When she finds the club, Bands, she realizes she has found her sanctuary. Music calms her. Drake is the owner and is drawn to Scarlet. I LOVE how caring and patient he is with Scarlet. I can't gush enough about how much I loved this book. Despite no sex, there is sexual tension throughout and the bantering between everyone is wonderful. Such an great book!

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.

I was trying to push myself to finish this, but I just couldn't. I think the description of the book was interesting and that's what made me want to read it, but it didn't follow through. Maybe I'm not in the majority here, but I couldn't bring myself to care about Scarlet, or anyone else for that matter. I can say that she's definitely independent and has only ever had herself. Her interactions with the other characters were nice although a bit off. She's portrayed as a former drug addict at only 19 years old who was being taken care of by her friend back home who hooked her up with a job. Once she gets fired from her job as a waitress, she suddenly swoops in at a club owned by the love interest, Drake.

Now, the things that I have problems with is the flow of conversation and dialogue. It just seemed slightly odd and didn't come off as natural most of the time. I get that most of it was supposed to be witty and relatable but it was mostly lines that sound similar to any other romance novel.

I didn't see the appeal of Drake at all. He came across as vapid, the brief moment we first meet him at the restaurant. Also, the sudden attraction to Scarlet didn't make sense because it had no build up, besides the few times he threw out flirtatious comments. She works as a bartender for one night at his bar, and since she's underage she can't continue with it. But, he offers to find her another job at his place. Between that and their hot and heavy session in the abandoned building Scarlet was sleeping in, I can't find a logical reason for these two to even care for each other.

Another thing I don't get is how Drake, being an Ivy League educated man with his own business, can't figure out why his business isn't doing well. Scarlet comes in as a low key math genius and tells him that his entire problem is the bands that play at his nightclub and BOOM she's got the answer he's be looking for all this time.

Thats all I can say since I only made it half way.

Scarlet is not like other girls, she has some problems that she has to work through. Scarlet does not like loud noises, bright lights or anyone touching her. Scarlet is running from her past as well. She is trying so hard to escape her past demons and make something of her like now. When she wanders into a new nightclub, there is just something different about this place. Scarlet actually feels like she can handle being in this club without needing to run away. Not to mention there is a hot nightclub owner that has entered the scene as well.

Drake owns this nightclub and not bad to look at either. Drake has his fair share of ghosts from the past and not to mention that his nightclub in in danger of being shut down. What will Scarlet do then if she has no where to go and escape her demons? She has to come up with a way to help Drake save the nightclub.

The chemistry between Drake and Scarlet is scorching. They don't have a love at first sight relationship but they have definitely developed something special between the two of them. Scarlet ends up being the strong one for Drake while they are trying to deal with all the nightclub stuff. I was so impressed with how Scarlet was able to put aside her own weaknesses/fears and be strong for Drake.

I thought this read was really good until about the last 10 or 11%. Something about the ending just felt rushed and thrown together. Although Scarlet and Drake get their HEA, I just felt that it missed something. The rest of the story was point on though. I am curious to what Ciara Knight will have in store for us in the next Straight Edge book.

Wow, all I can really say is “wow”! This book was so good that I could hardly put it down. When I first started it, I wondered if I would like it. But once I got a couple of chapters in, I was hooked.

You learn so much about what it is like to have a problem that no one can see and one that you cannot explain because there are no words for it. Scarlett is one very strong woman who has dealt with more than anyone should ever have to from a very early age. She was saved by Ton from the Straight Edge Community after almost dying. She ends up running away to Atlanta where she finds a place that she feels she can fit in and be “normal”.

Drake is a man who had everything material in his life but after losing his parents and brother in an accident, he is broken. He is trying to run his brother’s bar mostly out of guilt but maybe something else. He was dating Margo, a socialite, just because it was convenient. She hung the loan on the bar over his head at all times to keep him in line.

When Scarlett and Drake meet up, there is a lot of chemistry between them. The story is really about how Drake and Scarlett, two broken people, find each other and go on a journey of self-discovery. I will not say anymore because it would spoil the story for you, it is a must read. It is a story of two people and those who love them, that struggle and they find that love and trust can overcome fear and hate.

This was a first read for me by this author and man did I like it! This is the story of Scarlet and Drake. Drake is a nightclub owner that is slowly losing money but he loves that place and wont give it up without a fight. Scarlet our hero in this story, is going through a lot. In and out of foster homes and unable to withstand touch, she is dealing with a wealth of emotions that are hard to control but she is determined, really determined to make it this time. I found her strength to be resilient and the I won't fall back into that mess attitude, awesome. I rooted for her all throughout this story. Drake was the perfect hero for her, patient and loving at all the right moments. He knew not to push her and understood her in so many ways. I loved how they worked together. This was an enjoyable read.

Full Review posted at A Book Lovin' Mama's Blog

If this book would’ve been written from multiple points of view, I may have liked it better. I could have gotten Drakes’s feelings too. I’m disappointed that I was not too fond of the book.

I will be trying Ciara Knight’s other books soon. I know I have several on my kindle that I’ve purchased that I need to read. This book may not be a favorite, but I know I will find a book that I will love from Ciara Knight.

Steaminess: Mild.

HEA: It feels more like a HFN. (Happy for Now.)

Trope: Opposite’s Attract, Instant Love (for hero)

Would I recommend this book? I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy reading New Adult written from the first point of view. Some triggers in this book involve drugs, addiction, violence, rape, and death, which may be some issues to readers.
